I like DWill's game. I think Malcomb may have a shoot at a professional career. BUT wow....Fred is the MAN at the point!!! Sure he'll hit a slump somewhere, but man he see's the floor exactly how the GREAT point guards are supposed to see the floor!!! Love it!!! Go Shocks!!!

Maybe I'm reading too much into one outstanding performance, but here's what I thought I saw.
FVV attacked the D - both man and zone - with dribble penetration. He's got uncanny start-stop ability, he can go herky-jerky, and he's got great acceleration and direction changes. I was reminded of Barry Sanders.
He wasn't getting open looks at the hoop very often, but he was getting open looks to make entry passes to front court guys. Most PG's dribble across the top if they can't make an open entry pass. FVV attacks until he's in a position to make the entry pass. FVV creates open looks for passes. If the D makes a mistake when FVV is driving to make a pass, he'll just take it to the hoop.
Give FVV some time to work woith players and look out! Two yers from now. Here are some players and their number of full years with FVV
Wessel - 3
Green - 2
Baker - 2
Watson - 1
Morris - 1
FVV/Wessel/Baker/Green looks like a pretty good core for a team.

We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I think the FVV-Steve Nash comparison is a pretty good one. They both are so good at sliding off a ball screen and cutting towards the lane, followed by either a dish or an easy finish.
I would be interested in hearing comparisons from the older and wiser posters on this board: when was the last time we had a true point guard with a skill set comparable to FVV? My memory goes as far back as Joe Griffin and IMO we haven't had a guy capable of carving up a defense like Fred does in the last 25 years. Ragland was a very good PG but he was not particularly strong with the ball/most of his upside came from his shooting accuracy; Hannah was much slower than FVV; Brauer was a fan favorite but not even close in terms of ability; Griffin was good (especially as a freshman) but still not in FVV's league.

He almost had a double double. I cannot remember the last Shocker to get a dd on pts and assists. Perez maybe?
FVV is the real deal. We all knew he was the real deal. It was just a matter of time before the college game clicked for him.
It looks like it clicked....."When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

He is a Freshman who had a really good game against a marginal Valley team.
Hey, I'm a big admirer of his talents and potential.
But let's not elect him to the Shocker Hall of Fame just yet.
That is all.Above all, make the right call.

Fridge was the last Shocker to get an assists double-double. It was on 2/18/04 and he had 23 points and 11 assists and the Shox lost to UNI 80-85.
