Yea I prolly went a little overboard with my comments, but we all were very frustrated with Malcolm play during the 3 game losing streak. I am glad he is playing very well right now, and I hope he keeps it up, we are definitely a better team when he makes a good decision like a true senior point guard should.

Originally posted by C0|dB|00ded View PostI just reread this thread starting with my latest call for apologies to M. Armstud and the subsequent responses that followed including my initial statement that JW is a "non-factor" in games. It is interesting, if not educational to see what follows next. It warms my heart to see all the support for a player that our coach will hardly play.. really it does. But where was this support for one of the stars of our team?
While trying to get those that greatly disrespected one of the best guards we have seen play in a Shocker uniform in decades to apologize I was: 1) refused apology by some that said his performance justified their comments, 2) called a hypocrite by accurately describing another player's contributions to the team and juxtapositioning his support over a player 10x more effective, and 3) attacked personally while calling for my banishment.
Imagine if I started a thread solely to attack JW on how slow he is, or how lost he looks at times, or how he loses his defender often, or how he bricks nearly everything he fires from range. Imagine if I did that? And I'm called the hypocrite because I labeled him a "non-factor" when asking for apologies for M. Armstud.
Some of the comments above are not only hateful, they are ignorant. "jacking up shots whenever he wants"?????? WTF!? If you don't know by now that HCGM wants his players to shoot the ball when they are open, then there is no hope for you. Gregg Marshall's teams will always jack up shots and if the player jacking them isn't having a good night he will have a lot of misses. Gregg does NOT tell his players to stop shooting if they are missing. He believes that inhibits them from breaking out of their slump. When our offense wasn't moving and MA had the ball in his hands, he had two choices with the clock running down: 1) he could drive right into the zone, or 2) he could shoot it. If he didn't see an opening in the zone he had to shoot it - sometimes forcing it. Our lack of movement in the offense during poor games was the reason a lot of shots were jacked. That was on everybody's head, not just MA's.
ETA: The hippo video was hilarious! I laughed out loud for quite a while.

You can start up a similar thread for Jake White when he starts games, averages 27 minutes a game, and then is directly involved in losses by turning the ball over in the last minutes of games. If you wanna be the man, you better BE the man. Armstead is more relied upon and plays more than Jake. That means he's held to a higher standard than things Jake does. When White dribbles balls off his feet with seconds remaining in a one possession game, you have my permission to start a thread about him over it.
None of the above post collecting were attacks. Maybe, mild ribbings, but not attacks. Just straight-up, fundamental feelings. Curiously, you were absent at the time of this thread's creation. Now that things are peachy and rosy again, and we've won 5 in a row, you just want everyone to forget about the piss poor play in the 3-game losing streak and pretend like it never happened. I don't think you'll have too many apologizing for their feelings when they were made AT THAT TIME. There were valid.
And in regards to shooting, nobody cares if Armstead puts up a zillion shots if they are all good shots. It's when he does his circus BS in critical times that has no chance of going in, or chucking up 3-balls out of rhythm whenever he wants to. When you're taking bad shots and making them, nobody cares as much. When you're taking bad shots and throwing up bricks, people are gonna talk about them. Marshall has said the same thing.
Perhaps, you should give Marshall a call tonight on the Coach's Show (since you're the big bad guy you like to portray yourself as) and let him know his sophomore forward doesn't suit your interests and should be kicked off the team.Last edited by ShockerFever; February 25, 2013, 04:41 PM.Deuces Valley.

We all know 3G lets and wants his guys to shoot when open. NOBODY was criticizing MA for taking open shots. It was the shots where he had two guys on him and he showed no desire to even look to anybody else that pissed people off. For a stretch, he was good for about 4 of those a game. Not what anybody wants out of their "stud" PG. Those poor shots were poor decisions and were as good as turnovers.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

So you are saying that MA is the only person making mistakes on our team when we aren't playing well? Hmmm..???? Of course not! The point I have MADE and that seems to fly over everybody's head around here is that MA - as a whole - has been a tremendous contributor to our team's success this year, and while a few of his mistakes have been glaring, it is only so because most of the time he does what he does so well.
It's been a 100 years since we've had a guard that is literally a lock to get the ball up court and get us into our offense regardless of the defensive pressure. FFV might be the second guard in 100 years. MA single-handedly neutralized the "havoc" defense and led us to a win when NOBODY thought we would get one. MA is special and deserves apologies for all who disrespected his skill and effort.

matter of fact... .
Joe Ragland >>> Malcolm
Fred certainly has the potential to be better than MA in the future, but what you are saying now is false. Replace Fred with Malcolm and play this season over and we have at least 8 more losses and are looking at the NIT/CBI.
Give MA his respect!

Nobody is saying otherwise. He's not a PG god like you try to make him out to be. He's had questionable decision making most of the year. His shot selection has been criticized most of the year. His selfishness, at times, has been criticized throughout the year. When we went into a slump, all of this became even more glaring and obvious. Is it really that hard to understand?

I'm going to have to try and approach this a different way...
Malcolm Armstud has started every game this year 29-29 - the only person on our team to have done so! He has played 794 minutes - more than any other player on our team. He has score 294 points - second on the team. He has 72 TO's but also 53 steals - that's a net of 19 lost possessions. Considering he is the primary play-maker on our team if the clock is running down (i.e. the guy that has to force something when there is no other choice), that is tremendous! He is first in made 3-point field goals and second to Wiggins in 3-point field goal percentage. He's second in field goals made behind Cle'. He's second on the team in free-throw percentage. He's top 5 in rebounds.
So when you guys come on here and bash him - even starting a hate thread just for him - after all the success he is responsible for, you have to know that you look like asses to someone that sees the big picture. The coach would certainly be giggling his ass off if he read this. We road MA like a rented mule all the way to 19-2. Then when the wheels fell off for a few games everybody went for MA's head. It looked like a bunch of spoiled kids to me.
MA deserves our respect and appreciation for his contributions to this year's success... and the year ain't over yet. Those of you that bashed him in a very inappropriate way should come forth and apologize. It's only going to get harder as the year goes on.

Thank God Malc is here this year.
Fred is going to score 500 career points just off his little stop and pop from 10 feet. Book it!
I like both and certainly glad I don't have to discard one or the other."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:
