Armstead and VanVleet needed each other. VanVleet needed an experienced D1 PG to show him the ropes and hold the helm while FVV got up to speed. Then Armstead needed FVV pushing him for minutes, a starting spot, and being on the court at the end of games.
There was a time when it was a legitimate issue whether the Shox were better with FVV or Armstead running the show. Once the 5th year Sr. saw that a first-year Fr was pushing him for PT, the Sr kicked it up more than a notch or two.
Armstead needed the pressure from a True Fr and FVV needed Armstead's experience to grow into the D1 player he's becoming.
It's not one or the other. They both benefithuge from playing with each other. That's showing up big time when both are in the game. Armstead and FVV in tandem in the back court is one of the Shox best combos. Cotton and DWill are less than a whisker behind them, so all the back court players get breaks during games and over the season.
FVV makes Armstead better and Armstead makes FVV better. They appear to be figuring that out at about the perfect time of the season.
