A conservative perspective might be as follows:
    1. The state government is meddling in basketball business through regulation.
    2. The state government is implying, if you do not act as we say, we will take money away from you.
    3. The state government has more important matters for its attention.
    4. The state government is providing benefits to one institution at the expense of another institution - the tried and true liberal strategy, which offends many on the right.

Yes, I know the sponsor of the bill is a Republican. Perhaps he is closer to RINO than Jefferson status.

I am about as far right as anyone on this fine forum, but I support the bill. Sometimes it all depends on which side your bread is buttered.

It is my guess that it will never pass.

They are not taking money away, they are giving less money.
The govt is not taking any money and giving it to WSU. This is not a redistribution of wealth. This is daddy telling big brother to quit whining and man up and play with the red headed step child

        1. "They are not taking money away, they are giving less money."

I did not say the state government is taking money away.
I do not know what "they are giving less money" means.

        2. "This is not a redistribution of wealth."
Coach Self argues to the contrary.

        3. "This is daddy telling big brother to quit whining and man up and play with the red headed step child."
A conservative would say that it is parent's right to discipline a child, not the state government.

I still support the bill. It is a little deal either way.

I'm not sure if you really believe this 100% of the time like you stated here but if you believe this statement, you need to check out things like the Triangle Shirtwaist and Titantic disasters and the reforms that followed that 99%+ of us would take for granted.

          • Just the threat of this bill may be enough to have Self schedule us in KC, Lawrence and Intrust. He may want to do it on "his terms" and go ahead with it before he has a serious threat of actually having to come to Koch arena.
No matter what this bill could do well for us

            • Is KSU in the bill as well? If not, why?

Big difference between legislating two/three schools play each other and the safety issues that were addressed in your examples.

I didn't say no government = better government. But less is more.

It wasn't at first. KSU was added shortly after this became public.

                      • This bill merely attempts to ameliorate an imbalance that was caused by the same government acting on KU's behalf many years ago. If they want to fix things totally, they would immediately turn the KU medical center over to Wichita State as well as approve our previous requests for starting a dental school as well as many other requests that were denied by the gov.. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR KU.

I hope this bill passes and I further hope it instructs KU to drag their sorry asses into Koch arena every other year. That would be FACKING hilarious.

I agree that you have done an excellent job of outlining a possible conservative perspective. Let me offer up some additional verbiage which might help conservatives sleep at night, should they believe they are at risk of losing their "way" should they support this:

                          1. The state government is meddling in [already state owned and regulated] basketball business through [increased] regulation.
                          2. The state government is implying, if [state owned institution A] do[es] not act as we say, we will take money away from [state owned institution A].
                          3. The state government has more important matters for its attention [even though they collect and distribute massive amounts of taxes in order to fund these institutions, and have a very vested interest in seeing them ALL achieve success].
                          4. The state government is providing benefits to one [state owned] institution [and state economies at large,] at the [risk of embarrassment to] another [liberal] institution [which has used state legislation numerous times to their own benefit and simultaneously and purposefully to the detriment of the benefiting institution in many instances in times past] - the tried and true liberal strategy, which offends many on the right [and especially those living in Wichita].

                          :)

                              • Update?

Considering we are losing a decent home and home next year with BJ, we could certainly bolster our schedule with a few games from our sister in-state schools.
