  • With help from someone much more informed than I, there were 2 agreements.

    1) 4 games, 1 in Lawrence, 2 in KC (de facto home games for KU) and 1 in Wichita. 3 for 1 with all 4 competitive. Not surprisingly the record was 3-1 in favor of KU.

2)5 games, 3 in Lawrence and 2 in Wichita. All 5 were blowouts (the first game in Lawrence was mildly competitive despite the 20 point final spread). If KU was treated so poorly I would have thought they wouldn't play the last game in that last series. Funny how that works.

      • They don't need us and w don't need them. It's a game the fans want to see and that's about it.

KU did play WSU first at home and then two games in Kansas City and finally a series of 3 one and one games. 9 games over 10 years (4 in Lawrence, 3 in Wichita and 2 in Kansas City)

KU decided not to renew the series after the 1992 game in Wichita. He did so because that game was an absolute disaster. WSU behaved incredibly badly on every level. You can say whatever you want about KU expecting everyone to treat them like kings but they do deserve to be treated at least like any other team. They had already scheduled the 1993 game in Lawrence and honored that but Roy Williams swore they would never play WSU again. Then in 1993 WSU accused him of running up the score in retaliation for the previous year's treatment (which was probably a fair accusation).

Now you can say this was 20 years ago and you can say the coaches and administration have turned over but I can assure you that no one at KU has forgotten about all the crap that went down at that 1992 game. So say that KU is scared or stuck up or whatever but if you don't acknowledge that there were legitimate reasons why KU ended the series after committing to it for over a decade then you just aren't being genuine. Like my grandfather used to like to say, "act like an a-hole, get treated like an a-hole". WSU has no one to blame for that series ending but themselves.

It is worth noting that KU does play nearly every other team in the state at least every other year (K-State obviously, Fort Hays, Emporia, Pitt State, Washburn plus UMKC quite a bit). They just don't play WSU. That isn't some sort of accident. It is very intentional.
Facts? If I wasn't so pissed at the arrogance, I'd laugh. They teach A-hole at ku. I think it's mandatory. It certainly appears to be.

Kind of looks like KU only wants to play WSU when they aren't good. KU wanted nothing to do with WSU in the 70s and early 80s.

I knew it wouldn't take long for this douchenugget to reappear after a year of absence.

                • Still chuckling at the lie about fans drawing KU players' blood.

You forgot about the time we waterboarded Danny Manning's mom. I'm sure that didn't help.

                  • I'm laughing pretty hard that something "allegedly" done 20 years ago under a completely different coaching regime is the single reason why KU wants to avoid WSU like the plague. Funniest **** I've read in a while.

Firstly, this thread stemmed because a KU fan questioned the series first on your forum and it has migrated back to here and the OP is a tool. So please let's not act like it's only a WSU "thang".

Secondly, wouldn't you want to play WSU when they were perceived to be "good"? I dunno. Seems to make the most sense to me.

To me it appears that KU is indifferent to playing WSU regardless of the Shockers' standing in college basketball.

We weren't competitive then. Of course there was no useful reason to cry about continuing the series at that time. We weren't crying about continuing a series with ANYBODY. Just like KU FOOTBALL currently.
