I watched a bit of the game last night and noticed the constant fidgeting with the sound as well. Many times I have heard the Shocker game on television and thought the crowd sounded quiet when I knew it wasn't. It think they usually just say F-it and turn the sound completely down because they know they don't have a chance. At least they tried to let some of the real noise through on this broadcast.

The real C0|db|00ded plays defense. Wayy too much hockey in my blood to dress up like a sieve. And when I would foul, I would make them count.

Funny you accuse it of being our Superbowl when there was a four page thread on here extolling your crew to go apesheet in the stands.
Perhaps that's because there are just so many things to make fun of when it comes to the BJ's.

It's amazing others are using the term SloMo. I thought I coined that phrase last night at the game. I will forever call him Grant SloMo Gibbs.

P.S. I hope you put money on the BJ like you said you were and I hope you lost your ass.

He is some odd combo of D-baggery, toughness, and court smarts. Very odd bird indeed but he wins and if he were a shocker I would be a fan.
I suspect he is a very smart player but there isn't a chance in hell that HCGM would recruit him. He is the antithesis of what coach looks for in a player: speed, length, athleticism.

Even when you have local beat writers, former players, and current coaches talking about it being a huge rivalry and a huge game for you.

And considering some of the signage caught by ESPN cameras at last year's beat down, I wouldn't really go there either.

Just take the L and move on.
OMG! Would you please drop the rivalry B.S with Ghetto Catholic College of Nebraska?

Every time you bring this up we look small. Who gives a flying **** what they think of us? I expect a program like Wichita State to beat the BJ every time we meet. They are a tiny catholic school, smack dab in the middle of the ghetto, located in a state even more insignificant than Kansas. They pray to the saints every day that they will be included in the Vatican's catholic league. Being monotheists, we pray to God that the ChicKUns will find the stones to play us again where a REAL rivalry could be renewed (like it was in the 80's).

I don't hate BJ, I think they are cute.. kind of like Newman or Friends.

I hate KU and if they ever come to our barn again, you will learn the definition of rivalry. There will be blood in the aisles.

An aside. There is not much forgiveness on Demetric's 3 ball. Just way too much spin.
This. Demetric goes full bore at the rim. He did a really good job yesterday of picking and choosing his spots against the far less athletically gifted BJ guarding him.

      • Cold, are you trying to act like the way-too-cool BJ fans and deny something that's there? I know in your eyes, saying it's a big, rivalry game, makes it seem like we're bowing down to them and everything. I'm sure that's the exact same mindset some of their moronic fans think as well. I'm not that naive.

I really don't want to start posting articles of the past few days to refute your point. You personally can think whatever you want. If you think there's less disdain for that opponent or fanbase than any other one in this league or for most everywhere, well then, you're just acting like a BJ.

        • I hope the return of confident Cold means he can stop bending over and singing the praises of what a quality team Evansville is. That was disappointing and he should be ashamed.

That was pretty embarrassing. More embarrassing than calling sCUm "a big rivalry game".

I still think Evansville has a good basketball team. That doesn't mean I stopped thinking they are a worthless D2 program. The ChicKUns have a A++ program but they got beat by NIU in the Dance.

              • They've followed their Super Bowl win last week over us with double-digit losses at Drake and Indiana State.

                "Good" may be pushing it...

I had no idea they played so poorly after beating us. As you know, I hardly follow Valley teams. Perhaps our game was their "Super Bowl".

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. They are in the upper deck, but at least they were very cheap just $12 each (the price of the two tickets combined was a lot cheaper than one Shocker ticket in the last row behind a pole at the Chuck).

                        • I think everyone here is drawing the wrong conclusions about Gibbs.

So much of his game is an intentional schtick, geared towards getting other coaches/players to act in a certain way regarding him. It's if he says, nothing to see here, move along. Why? Because it allows him to do all the things that we need him to do, without him being harrassed.

One thing no one has even covered yet is how valuable he is in getting the ball to Doug. Someone said in an earlier thread that Early disappeared for parts of the game, then someone else said that no, he was sealing his man down low but Armstead never got him the ball. Well, Grant and Doug work together so well that the moment Doug seals his guy, Gibbs has the ball in his mitts. He's outstanding at that. Someone on our board did a breakdown of the efficiency of each of our 5 man lineups; Doug's efficiency was far, far better with Gibbs out there than when it was just Chatman. That's why you rarely see Wragge come in for Gibbs, it's almost always Dingman, since Dingman is a better passer. It's no coincidence that Gibbs is third in the nation in assist/TO ratio; losing him would be a huge problem.

The other thing is, that slow stroll he takes down the lane isn't him being that slow, it's him intentionally doing it. Normally he gets Doug on one block and Greg on the other, and then goes slowly down the lane as if to say, HEY, I'M GOING TO THE HOLE, COME OFF OF DOUG OR GREG AND COVER ME. It's like a running back going 2/3 speed on a sweep, in order to let his blockers get out there and the play to develop before he decides which route to take. What happens is the guy guarding Gibbs sags off on McDermott's side, neither guy comes off of their post defense, and Gibbs jogs to the rim and scores. Heck, yesterday it happened right in front of Carl Hall - Hall was leaning against McDermott as if he was trying to seal him off on offense, and Gibbs ran right at Hall, who never budged, and put it up uncontested for a layup.

Comments like Cold's are exactly what Gibbs wants. Slow, can't do jack, nothing to see here.

everytime I flipped it on they would have it on the ticker on the left side and it would disappear before they showed it.
