I love how our most passionate fans (shockernet posters) are the ones to get the most irrational about a players technicals. I know how we act during games, and MA is a saint compared to most of us.
Seriously? 1 tech may slip through a season. 2 in the last 3 games? That is unacceptable. He should have learned after his first one. I'm confident Marshall will make him learn after his 2nd in 3 games. This ain't Kyle Weems U or P'Allen Stinnett Tech. And comparing fans to Division I players on the court is just ludicrous.

Joe Ragland had a bit of an edge also. The technical foul he had against VT in the NIT a few years back is one example. I think MA is a great asset to this team and won't say a word moving forward.
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

Yes, I am comparing a bunch of adults to division one players. I continue to see this board give a free pass for all kinds of inappropriate behavior. On the hand; get a technical and it is the end of the world.

Once again, the team was descent to great when MA played. Not so much when he didn't. Pay attention to the rest of the game and then get back to me about his value to this team. He has destroyed some of the toughest presses in the country. The same presses that gave out past point guards nightmares.

Last year's NCAA games goes a lot better with a player like MA.....

Do you know what he's doing/saying to get these technicals? Cause I don't. And I've seen a lot of trash-talking, rim-hanging, face-screaming, jersey-flicking, ball-kicking and throat-slashing from our opponents over the last several years go UNCALLED.

          Just sayin

Maybe, but jawing to the other team in front of a referee is probably going too far. Maybe the refs tolerate players a little more if they're just acting like idiots by themselves but when they start jawing at the opposing bench, coaches and players, I have a feeling they take exception to that, especially considering that's exactly how he got both technicals. I suspect some foul language was involved as well. Don't know for sure. Having a history attached with those now sure doesn't help.

You can get excited, jaw with some opposing players on the floor, and do so in a manner that does not require a T. The officials just don't give technicals for the hell of it. I have a feeling he's doing something that's bad enough to warrant it, considering it has reoccurred twice now in 3 games. He should have learned his lesson a week ago. Let's not try to justify it. He shouldn't even do anything REMOTELY close to have a referee even CONSIDER a T in their minds from now on. That's the safest and smartest way of avoiding a future one.

Have you not been able to watch the Tennessee and/or Charleston Southern games lately? Did you not catch the amazingly poor turnovers and shot selection by Mal in those sequences? Let's not pretend like he's a perfect player catching unwarranted heat. Add technical fouls in the last 3 games to the forefront, and defending that behavior makes me question your moral tolerance. It's one thing to have an edge. It's another to start giving opponents free points in 2 of the last 3 games for nothing more than being stupid. If you can't see that, then you have it in for MA somehow.

I like him when he's cool, collected, under control, and quarterbacks the team. While Fred may be slow and not ready for the starting position, MA sure isn't helping matters with his arrant turnovers, questionable shot selection, and multiple bouts of technical fouls.

And I'd take Joe Ragland over MA ANY day of the week.

You put joe Ragland on this team and you have a top 10 team. You also have a 12-0 team

I sure do not condone the T's either but MA's stat line tonight of 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 To is a pretty nice stat line, his leadership will continue to improve as the season wears on. I would take this stat line night in night out from our point guard.

Well if we could replace Cle with Dave Stallworth we would be nation champions. I can understand being upset with the techs however he is a good point guard. We would have a worse record without him.

After SoMiss went off and had us down by 11 going into halftime, one of our fans about 6 rows up was spouting off while the SoMiss players were going into the locker room. One of the players turned toward the fan and actually retaliated. So SoMiss was feeling it because they had us down pretty good and were mouthy as hell. There was a LOT of chirping going on down there, both ways.

The crowd just started going ape-nuts right before Malcolm got the T because we just had our first really huge momentum turning play on offense (Malcolm to DWill 3 pointer), then Cotton picks a pocket and Malcolm gets a coast-to-coast fast break layup and the crowd was in a fevered frenzy due to the fast 5 point swing. Malcolm was reacting to the crowd and BAM he got nailed for it.

As a senior he has to learn to control his emotions, but honestly it was more of a Carl Hall@Tennessee technical than it was a Malcolm@Tennessee technical. If that makes any sense at all. The one at Tennessee was STOOPID. The one last night was just due to letting his emotions get the better of him at a HUGE turning point in the game.

I'll give him a pass for that technical last night. But I've got my eyes on him. And they're squinty.

We would lose to VCU with Ragland.... Just like last year, he doesn't have the ability to deal with ball pressure that MA has....

I am not advocating the tech fouls or forgiving MA. please re-read my first post last night. I am highlighting two key issues:

                          1) He is the most important player over the next six weeks. He was one the most important players for nine of our wins.

                          2) This board is all for moral tolerance in other situations. I have to go less than 48 hours back to find a majority of our board excusing public behavior that is less than stellar. His behavior is much better when compared with the prior situation, but it seems worse because of the personal foul and two free throws.

Well last night he went up to his opponent and talked smack and showed the guy up. It was just a smack "quip" it was a "conversation" with his opponent. Everybody in our section was yelling for him to shut his mouth. There is probably way to talk smack that doesn't get you a T, but MA wanted everybody to know he was talking smack - unfortunately the ref was standing right there. I suspect MA now has the reputation with the MVC refs and if there will be some who will just T him up for looking wrong at his opponents.

And lets not act like these two Ts are the only times we've complained about him running his mouth. He's put himself in a couple of other positions to be called for it in the past. I'm also glad to hear that he wasn't jacking up as many dumb ass shots last night. They don't count as turnovers but they might as well. If he can play under control he's fine. But I'm not sure he can stay under control and fear he'll cost us a couple of games this season.

WSU wouldn't be 11-1 without him but they may have been 12-0 without his mouth.
