I'm not sure Cle will be the key. I'm not saying we don't need good production out of Cle, but Cle will now found himself as the marked man as opposing defenses will be able to focus more on stopping him with Carl on the shelf.

I think the key will be for the rest of the team to step up and be enough of a threat that opposing teams won't be able to totally focus on shutting down Cle or if they do we make them pay.

You mean go all Creighton on the MVC?

I was thinking exactly along those same lines, but I doubt 3G will be ready to go to that extreme. Just not his style.

Even when your best defenders are not 100% or out of commission for the next several weeks?

What wins championships is scoring more points than the other guy. Most Championship teams are well balanced. In basketball, in addition to good team offense and team defense it also involves taking care of the ball and rebounding.

Or is it keeping your opponent from scoring more points than you?...

Yes, but our defense gets our best scorers in foul trouble in the first 2 minutes on a regular basis.

We must stay out of foul trouble.

But if our opponents start hitting free throws this negates whatever Cle might do. AMIRITE

I wonder if we will see 3G deploying his zone defense more than he traditionally would?

What difference does it really make? By the time you get to the second or third page of the tread, the topic has likely entirely gone off in a different direction anyway.

Our gameplan should be about things we can control. We cannot control whether our opponents hit 80% or 60% of their free-throws, but we can keep them from seeing the line too many times a game. It is the same as playing ordinary defense. You cannot control whether your opponent hits their open shots, but you can make sure they don't get many chances.
