Beware what you wish for. Think about it. You believe the MVC conspires against WSU? CU to the catholic league is not a absolute. Can WSU vie for championships every year in a different league? Sounds like over reaction.

The Shox are already doing it. The gap will just be wider if the CU bolts

Will SLU and Dayton stay in the A-10 if most of the good teams (and the ones closest to them) bolt? I can't say for certain. I know that they have reasons to stay, but we should still extend an offer to both those schools and other candidates (ORU, Tulsa type schools, and other that have mentioned before).

Also, I've nothing I've said concerns Creighton. If the Big East offers, they are gone and nothing will change that. Everything I've been talking about concerns the rest of the league, particularly us, Evansville, Illinois State, and UNI. What can we do? Give cash to teams that stay past a certain date. Raise the exit fee to something in the multi-million dollar range, and make it so any team that leaves forfeits NCAA money. That type of stuff.

Of course, as a Wichita State fan, I hope that we can bolt from this conference as soon as possible. But the majority of the conference is not concerned about what Wichita State wants.

The conference is not going to vote in a bunch of huge financial incentives to stay or a bunch of huge penalties for departures.

CU, WSU, UNI and Illinois State all have very itchy trigger fingers at the moment. None of them are going to vote for any of that and the MVC almost assuredly does not allow for simple majority approval of those kind of measures. Even weaklings like UE and MSU are eyeing options and don't want to limit their cash-strapped ADs in terms of mobility.

I think it is hard to say what every team wants. UNI and Illinois State may want to move football to the MAC and keep basketball and other sports in the MVC, so they may not want other schools to leave. The weaklings may still believe that staying is the best option. I only mention this to say that we have too many unknowns to say exactly what every school in the Valley (and also the A-10 and BE as well) wants to do or will do. Also, presidents and ADs sometimes think differently than the fans (see Tulane to the Big East for an example).

Both Dayton and SLU recruit students from the East Coast. Both SLU and Dayton have opinions of the MVC that are shared by fans of schools like KU.

For concessions for CU, how about we give them extra time when they need a score with, say 1.9 seconds left. Oh, wait, they already have that.

A note for CBB_Fan: Please re-read your posts before you hit "Post" Then re-read them again. Then consider - do I really want to say that? Does that really need to be said? Does this raise the level of conversation or contribute substance to the conversation? If the answer to all those is yes, flip a coin - Heads - Hit "Post"; Tails - Hit "Cancel". Always remember that "Read more - Post less" is quite often a posters greatest contribution to a message board.

If you have a specific objection to what I've said, say it. I think the MVC's smartest options right now are to extend offers to a variety of teams (including teams that likely would reject the offer like SLU and Dayton), and try and implement policies that it needs to do to keep its members. The things I've mentioned are just examples.

Yes, I'm aware that Wichita State will not vote for some of those policies. However, the poor schools probably would, and Illinois State/UNI would prefer to leave in football only (so they might try and make it hard to leave for all sports). Potentially, that is the 6-7 votes you'd need to do something like I suggested.

You keep talking about the MVC making concessions and implementing policies to keep it's members - but what exactly might that be?

The dumbest thing the Valley could do is let UNI and ISUr play FBS in the MAC and park it's other sports in the Valley. You think they run a shoe string budget right now? Just wait till they have to figure out a way to pay for even more football and women sport scholarships.

                          1. Money
                          2. Allowing UNI/Illinois State to go to the MAC in football if they agree to keep other sports in the MVC for X amount of time
                          3. Increased fee to leave (possibly on a sliding scale based on athletic expenditures, which the poor schools would agree to)

That sort of thing. I'm under no illusions that Wichita State and Creighton would sign onto any of these because both school want out of the Valley, but this is the type of stuff most conferences do to try and keep schools from leaving.

The biggest thing the MVC could do would be to let the schools that actually earn the NCAA tourney units keep a larger share of those units than they currently get. That both rewards success and could keep teams from leaving.

Why would you pander to schools wanting to commit their very limited resources to football instead of basketball?

What's it like to be the only public school in a private (and 7/8 Catholic) league called the Big Eparchy? My guess is not friendly. Are they likely to want to make decisions that the public school cannot agree to, causing the public school to always be a thorn in their side? I think the answer is "yes" making the Big Eparchy league more than likely to not include public schools. At least initially.
