There was also a ton going on in Wichita Saturday night. Erich Church concert which I attended instead. (My ticket was used though). Chevelle was at cotillion. I believe there was something else going on too. Also Pay Per View boxing on. Tough night to play a not so very good team. Im impressed to hear we still had over 10k

It's what happens when you schedule cake teams like Howard, NCCU, WCU, and Northern Colorado. Stop scheduling horrible teams and maybe it'll be sold out. That said, I'm not worried. Most teams across the nation do not get nearly the attendance we get for games like those.

Concrete pillars nor ticket pricing will matter...

... when Creighton comes rolling into town.

The issue of who the opponent is does matter.

Sure, the quality of the home team product is essential. But who they are playing matters too, especially to the casual fan.

What do you think will be the level of hysteria for coveted tickets in Shockland the few days before Dougie & Company come calling?

There will be fisticuffs, family break ups and general rioting throughout the streets.

Ok, maybe not that bad, but don't rule out the fisticuffs - especially in the local watering holes.
Above all, make the right call.

I don't think this is a fair generalization. From a personal standpoint, I have to travel in from out of town to see games, and I try to do that around three or four times per year. More than once, I bought four row 34 tickets and sat directly behind a pillar. Not to state the obvious, but that sours the experience when those tickets are just as expensive as others in the same vicinity. So I'm not hauling my crew down there for row 34 tickets, regardless of what you think of whether I'm a "true fan." That goes quadruple for games against Northern Colorado, and others of that ilk. All of this leads to my original question: where are the tickets that remain unsold?

Personally, I think they should just drop row 34 out of the capacity calculation, but that's a pretty big number.

There are empty seats every night in almost every arena including Allen Fieldhouse.

Note KSU's home boxscores that show 12,000 in attendance, but watching the game, there couldn't have been more than 5,000 folks there.

I think there are about 36 steel beams in Koch Arena and they effect more than just row 34. In fact, row 34 may not be the worst row as I think the beams are actually located around row 28 or 29 aren't they?

But if you have financial concerns, the opponent does matter. It's entertainment and spending $40 to watch a glorified scrimmage against really bad teams isn't a good use of that money.

I think the key term here is fan"base". The "base" is showing up. It's the Johnny-come-lately, bandwagon fans (which every program wants and needs) that isn't taking up the slack. When you combine the down economy, ticket price increases (which are close to pricing me out), lack-luster opponents and other competing events, then you get the difference between 2005 and 2012.

Absolutely. I was technically priced out a couple years ago but held on until this year. With all that's going on and as much as I want to be there, it's hard to justify time and money on our home schedule to date.

VERY few schools if ANY would sell out an arena with 10,500 tickets to see a top 25 team smash a 1-6 team. The casual fan doesn't get excited for games like these. It happens all around the country, not just at WSU.

I'm a fan of the Shockers. A lifelong fan from a family of lifelong fans. I'm certainly not the first or only fan to complain about the level of competition. And I'm hearing the same complaint more often from other long time fans. But we'll still be there. And we'll always be WheatShocker fans. But even loyal fans may actually want to see name competition. At least for a few games. And casual fans will probably not show up at all for this type of schedule. There is a lot more I could say on this subject, but I should probably shut-up before I get myself into trouble.

There are a lot more than 300 empty seats each game, at least so far this season. Many of the corporate buyers are not utilizing the tickets they have. I think that's why Marshall made mention of it on the coaches show.

The area has been lacking energy. The empty seats don't help.

I'm in row 31. Love our seats. Beams are behind us.

I love watching the Shockers play basketball no matter who they play. No doubt that i enjoy watching Top 50 opponents more but I'll show up to watch them play and be critical no matter the opponent just like most of us on this message board. But there are times when I can't make it and I have to prioritize ( I will say that the Shockers are my main priority 99% of the time). If I can't make it, I try to sell my tickets and if I go low enough, I always find a buyer.
