    6th ALL TIME leading scorer.
    19th ALL TIME leading rebounder
    15th ALL TIME assists
2nd ALL TIME in steals, only surpassed by the legendary Fred Van Vleet in his final NCAA tourney games (Fred played 24 more total games than Jason).

Jason was one of the best defensive players in my lifetime. Tekele Cotton like.

Can you IMAGINE his stats if he'd had any help or coaching at all?

I also nominate Connor Frankamp. He had the misfortune of being on the same team as Fred or his numbers likely are off the charts.

There's a little era distortion going on.

Jason Perez was a nice player to have on some of our worst teams in history, but in the AAC, he'd be picking up sweaty towels.

One thing folks forget is how athletic the AAC is. It's truly several steps above the MVC. And the MVC in the 90's??

The athleticism in the AAC is likely one of the main reasons Marshall started to lose his shine a bit towards the end. One of his strategies was to recruit a slightly better athlete on average in each league he competed in. That wasn't possible in the AAC.

I'm sure BCCC fans have fond memories of the guys who could light it up on any given night. "At this level".

You're right about everything except your assertion where JP would fit in at "the AAC level". You don't know enough about the game to understand how his skill level and intelligence (as well as effort) carried a guy that was more athletic than you think. He would have been even better on the best WSU teams of the 2010s and would have started on all but the very best.

Some not the most popular nominations for various reasons, but I think they deserve consideration:

        Matt Braeuer
        Dexter Dennis
        Tyson Etienne
        Shaq Morris
        Sean Ogirri
        Kyle Wilson

Kind of hard to believe a team with both he and Mo Evans as starters went 13-17 and 6-12 in the Valley.

Shocker All-Time "Right Place Wrong Time" team (not nominations):

          Mo Evans
          Jason Perez
          Gal Mekel
          Craig Porter
          Quincy Ballard

Maybe if he was 6'7 he could be a spot up shooter in the AAC. His ball-handling was zero. He literally dribbled with two hands.

He did have a lot of heart and played hard. Maybe could have replaced Evan Wessel as a glue guy? But was he as strong as Evan? Probably not.

I appreciate your love for the past. I saw Perez win some exciting games in an era of MUCH lower competition. He was certainly a "star of the times" and I cheered hard for him. I also winced whenever he tried to... dribble.

I will endeavor to learn more about the game.

I tried to find a YouTube video of his game winning shot. Was it against Indy St.? I can't remember. Great times! Ran right out of the gym after he hit it!

Not really. We were a Juco team through most of the 90's. Only Randy was able to bring us back to competitiveness. And by competitive, I mean .500.

Mo Evans was a solid talent, but a better NBA player than college. He didn't want to get his knees and hands dirty.

Perez of course was just a good shooter who played with effort.

I'd take about 12 good shooters that played with effort right about now.

                Deuces Valley.
                ... No really, deuces.
