  • NOMINATIONS: 1st Quarter of the 21st Century Teams

Celebrating Excellence: The 1st Quarter Century Teams of Wichita State Men’s Basketball
Welcome to the beginning of a special celebration of Wichita State Basketball, where we honor the legends at Wichita State who have defined the first 25 years into the current millennium of our storied program. The 1st Quarter Century Teams (First Team; Second Team; and Honorable Mention) represents the pinnacle of talent, dedication, and achievement, showcasing players who have left an indelible mark on the court and in the hearts of Shocker fans. These men have not only set records and won championships but have also embodied the spirit and resilience that define Wichita State.

    Rules
    1. Each candidate must be nominated at least three times, by three different posters on Shocker.net to make it to the voting rounds.
    2. There will be five slots for 1st-team, five slots for 2nd-team, and 10-slots for Honorable mention. So only a total of 20 will move on to the next round.
    3. Players must have played at least a portion of the 21st century at Wichita State.
    4. Not required to start or finish their careers at Wichita State.
    5. Additional nominees are acceptable.
    6. My thread—so my rules. So, if you don’t like them...well okay and your opinion has been noted.

Question: how many can each poster nominate? Do we send the nominations on this thread or privately?

Post your nominations here. You should limit them to no more than 20. I will add the names (if needed). As soon as someone gets"3X"s in the Nominated Column of the original list, they are secured to move on to the voting rounds.

Jason Perez graduated in 2000. I am assuming he counts, and if he fits your criteria, then I nominate Jason Perez.

          6th ALL TIME leading scorer.
          19th ALL TIME leading rebounder
          15th ALL TIME assists
2nd ALL TIME in steals, only surpassed by the legendary Fred Van Vleet in his final NCAA tourney games (Fred played 24 more total games than Jason).

Jason was one of the best defensive players in my lifetime. Tekele Cotton like.

Can you IMAGINE his stats if he'd had any help or coaching at all?

I also nominate Connor Frankamp. He had the misfortune of being on the same team as Fred or his numbers likely are off the charts.

Added both and I should have included Connor Frankamp originally. Oversight on my part.

Seems like my first team picks are dead on. Second team picks are pretty close.

Honorables is a tough category, because, do I go by stats or all around play? I went with all around play and how important they were to the teams success.

                    1. FIRST TEAM

                    FVV
                    Ron Baker
                    Cleanthony Early
                    Tekele Cotton
                    Landry Shamet

                    2. SECOND TEAM
                    Jason Perez
                    Toure Murry
                    Paul Miller
                    Craig Porter
                    Malcolm Armstead

                    3. HONORABLES
                    PJ Cousinard
                    Rashard Kelly
                    Evan Wessel
                    JT Durley
