The lots look so empty so far this season and much of last season. As far as those spots already being paid for…the faculty and students pay for those spots as well but get booted out on game days….with faculty having to run out to their cars even while teaching in order to get their cars to other locations much father away from where they are teaching. Students as well. So, if the faculty and students, who have paid to have spots, have to move their cars, surely, on one of the coldest nights of the year when tickets sales have been disastrous, season ticket holders can share the wealth, too. Nothing like having the Athletic Department showing that they actually care about the fan base (which is dwindling by the hour).
Everything else you said is irrelevant. Faculty aren't quitting because they have to move their car 2 nights a week. Students aren't leaving because of that. It's a minor inconvenience when their primary reason for being there is something completely different and life altering (faculty=employment, students=education for a career)
People who donate large sums of money for a leisure activity with one of the primary benefits being specific spots might decide to not donate anymore.
Ask yourself this... Which is more likely:
1. Someone who decides to show up to a single game, solely because they can get super cheap tickets and park up close then deciding they want to pay thousands for season tickets where they will then have to walk from far away.
Or
2. Someone that donated a ton of money, seeing their benefit that they paid for be given away to someone who hasn't done anything for the University then deciding they don't want to donate anymore.
I guarantee you option 2 is 50,000x more likely to happen than option 1

Faculty may not be quitting...but they are inconvenienced in doing the very job that the university should be MOST concerned about...education. And, the faculty and students are paying for those spots. As far as a minor inconvenience, it depends on who you're talking to. Many faculty members are not spring chickens and then have to move their cars and walk all over the place...and, often in winter, this can be a huge issue.
People re not donating large sums of money these days...hence, part of the reason the finances are so poor in the Athletic Department. How many more are we going to lose?
Actually, neither scenario is relevant regarding tonight's game. The crowd is going to be so small. And, I'm not even talking about the close in parking...I'm talking about the HUGE lot off Hillside that will be 75% empty. Allowing a little safety for some people would go a long way in showing that the Athletic Department actually does care about bringing in fans...especially those who haven't been regularly attending.

Either way, the department is smart enough to not take away paid benefits from donors to give to walk ins so it's a moot point.
They do need to figure out ways to fill the empty unpaid for seats though. You can give walkins good deals on those without taking something away from paying donors. They absolutely should be running dirt cheap specials on the top few rows.
