Wichita State (9-3) at Temple (7-5) Game Discussion: Jan 03 (Fri)

Mashburn goes for 30+. We can score enough to win, the question is can we play enough defense and rebound well enough to win?

Temple swept us last Season including the overtime win in Wichita. They lead the series now 8-6 and protect their home court decently. Last Season QB had 6 pts. and 10 pts in those games. AAC Teams will try and get QB in foul trouble early before he hurts them. I'm hoping for a game of solid and smart scoring and much serious rebounding for the Shocks. Everybody we play will pack their D in, daring Shocker wide open 3 pt. attempts.

Thanks for the info. That is really eye opening. I really like Bells attitude of all things. He is always positive. Also. My frustration is usually limited to the times he appears to have tunnel vision and takes the ball to the basket and forces a shot that has zero chance of going in. But. At the same time he is scoring at a very efficient rate. So keep it up XB!

Bell could also occasionally dish to Ballard or lob for a dunk, but that doesn’t happen for some reason.

Another point about Bell's efficiency. WSU gets 1 point per possession on his shots inside the arc. That's not that good. He's actually a bit above that because of getting fouled and his 80%+ FT shooting. The sad part is that the efficiency on Bell driving and shooting is a little low, but if he would kick out the efficiency is likely to be even lower.

The lane is usually too clogged for a dump off pass to a front court player for an easier shot because defenses can sag off WSU's perimeter shooters. An efficient offense should be generating around 1.15 to 1.2 ppp in their half court offense. Those numbers are guesses, but I think numbers in that range would result in a good W/L record. The fact that Bell is one of the better options in half court situations is not really a positive for the team.

WSU doesn't have the personnel to effectively and efficiently run an iso, drive to the hoop offense. That's our offense and Bell is the best we've got at executing it.

1.25 is good for best in the NCAA, 1.2 is 8th, 1.15 is 35th. I think 1.1-1.15 is about our ceiling unless HCPM significantly changes his offense, which isn't bad but not world beating. We are 1.045 this year.

A caller makes the astute observation that Kenny Pohto has not taken a single three-pointer this year and is leading his team in points and rebounds and that this was due to him being utilized in a more proper fashion. A pretty great observation. MK couldn't wait to pounce on that guy and say that it was Santa Barbara who is in fact using him improperly
