You know, this game scared me a little bit. (and to a much smaller degree still does) Two concerns I had was USAFA's style of offense (that we haven't faced before) and what is the impact of the altitude going to do to our "depth"? However, I decided to look at the Academy's record and break it down. When I did that, I realized that their 6-1 record is a little bit of "fools gold". Here's how it breaks down:
Of their 6 wins, only 4 are against DI teams.
Of those 4 wins, only Army has a ".500" record (3-3) against other DI teams, the other 3 teams have 2 total DI wins
Combined record of those 4 DI teams: 5-14 (vs other DI teams)
Average margin of victory: 13.25 pts (includes a 29 pt victory against an 0-4 Jackson St)
Here's how that compares to WSU's 7-0 Record:
All 7 wins are against DI teams
3 Teams currently have "winning" records vs other DI teams, 1 Team is ".500" (Tulsa 3-3 against DI), 3 Teams have losing records (5 total wins vs DI)
Combined Record of those teams: 23-26 (vs other DI teams)
Average Margin of Victory: 14.6 (includes 26 pt win vs Tulsa)
Of course stats don't decide the outcome of the next game (that's why you actually PLAY the game), however, it does help give indicators. What it tells me is that they haven't had near as tough of a road in their games as WSU. Not to mention, when they played an arguably more athletic/talented team in Colorado, they lost by 15 points. (Note, two days later Colorado had to go to double overtime to beat a 1-5 Texas Southern.)
I still don't think this game will be a cake walk. However, when I first saw USAFA's 6-1 record I guess I put it on a much higher level than what it actually was. Of course, if our guys go in there thinking it will be a cake walk, it will be a long afternoon. Just ask Colorado about their game against Texas Southern.

Which is betta? Chemicals in the air, water in the gray matter, or a swift kick in the grapes which we hear can be very painful? Yikes!! What a call that was on a Shocker basketball pregame show!!!!!!! YIKES!!! Mike Kennedy handled that very gracefully.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
