Matej is like an AR-15 in the hands of an anti-2A activist - the dude could be an absolute monster if we built a scheme around putting him in spots where he could read that double team that some teams send and make decisions, but right now he gets caught up with nowhere to go and our offense almost spotlights his weaknesses instead of his strengths.

Agree with everything else you said as well but fantastic analysis regarding Matej.

The more I see of Matej the more I'm impressed. He was the leading scorer today for good reason. He was the only one who had the ability to create high percentage shots. While he didn't make them all, they were all good looks. He sets screens that open up our guards but they don't know how to utilize them effectively. Can you imagine if FVV and Matej were playing a 2 man game. Matej passes well for a big man and was the only one making an effort to feed QB. Hill and Matej should be the focal points of the offense.

We have a LOT of me me me guys on this team. They seem to all like each other and are genuinely good young men, but a LOT of guys are trying to get theirs and that can lead to issues.

We don’t turn it over a lot because we quite simply don’t look to pass all that much, honestly. When we have to make difficult passes & create, we turn it over.

X “experiment” needs to be over. The metrics are always going to inflate him against bad teams because he is a tough cover for them. He has a place on this roster to be a bench scorer, but he cannot play big minutes against good competition. It just doesn’t work. All the metrics that love him have shown that his game doesn’t translate at a higher level, even back to Drexel.

QB NEEDS to be more than a lob threat. His post game is good, but he has absolutely zero nose for the ball. He doesn’t demand it or put himself in spots to receive it and he has players that can make that happen this year. The effort is also a problem, imo

Zion is so incredibly raw, and he HAS to develop his jumper. Everything else is good for where he is at.

Corey and Justin feel like they have to win games for us by themselves right now which is ironically hurting us. They were both pressing big time in this tournament and it fell apart today. They have to get some help.

HB is who he is. You take that on a team like this all day every day.

Coaching has just been unacceptable in Florida. I thought that corner had been turned in Saint Louis but it has not. It’s not just Xs and Os either. I don’t see HCPM commanding real respect from this group right now. The amount of times our staff screams out “OVER” and our guys go under, switches are missed, rotations are late, effort is awful, assignments are blown etc is not good. Those things WILL happen at this level, but they aren’t corrected or even addressed. Hands are thrown up but there’s never a reckoning on the mistakes for 80% of the guys on the floor. It’s mind boggling to me. You don’t have to yank guys every time they turn their brains off, but you can’t let the mistakes hurt you as bad as we do without making a change. Effort also isn’t addressed at all which will bother me til the end of time.

I could spend another paragraph on my disagreements X and O wise but this has already been plenty of yapping.

We are ranked highly in luck for a reason. We will out talent our way past 80% of the AAC and win 20 games but I’m not sure I’ll personally find satisfaction in doing so the way we are playing right now. Saint Louis gave me hope that a lot of this could be brushed past but the thing about fool’s gold is everyone has days where they are a fool.

IDK. The idea of Shocker Basketball is almost more fun than the reality these days.

My problem with MB is he doesn't rebound. QB also doesn't rebound. They each had 3 rebounds. They each had 1 offensive rebound. We missed 40 shots, how can you only get 1 rebound? It would be almost impossible to not just stand there and get more rebounds.

Marshall would have literally killed a player, a coach, 2 admins and a handful of our own fans by now and we STILL wouldn't be down 30.

The difference in athletes and overall team strength was hard to watch or endure.

Not quite sure what they see in Yanis. He looks very D2 level at best. Maybe he is a good practice player?

I woke up and had a dangerous feeling.

I feel more apathetic than ever. Seriously. I know we’re 6-1, I know we’re better than last year, but I simply have no interest in watching small time ball. And that was never more evident than last night.

I don’t think I’ll be staying up for the next game. There really aren’t words enough to describe how disappointed I am with Mills, and maybe more importantly, tired of this program dying a slow death. Wonder what it would take for the money guys to even step back in and save it. Money shouldn’t be a problem. Not in freaking Wichita.

I never bought into QB as an All AAC center. He lacks an inside game on offense. He has tremendous tools to be a great rebounfer / defender except for what I refer to as basketball sense. I will give him credit for not trying to do more than he knows he is capable of. CW is a nice player but not physical enough for a PF. We are simply not a top 50 team without a legit POWER forward. I like both CW and RD but neither one is BIG enough. We are a very weak rebounding team. To be a top fifty team several things need to happen. Meeks has to be at 100% and a significant surprise on the upside. We need to go inside to MB more and MORE ! I said this just a couple games into the season. Ball movement and perimeter shooting has to improve. I love attacking the rim when there is space but we can't continue forcing it into 2-3 defenders and forcing up bad shots. Still think 20-22 W's is very achievable given the strength of our conference. A win against KSU would be nice. Hope they don't have more fans there than us. Need to do a fan special for that game to fill the seats with our fans instead of theirs !

We went to the Sweet 16 with Evan Wessel as our 4. We had Ben Smith at the 4 one year. Size at the 4 is not the problem. It’s defensive skill and desire to play defense, guard, box out, attack the ball, chase loose balls, have active hands, etc.

Also, the QB/MB on the floor at the same time thing is not going to work. That was such a “we have to play your way and completely abandon our game” move and it came at such an early stage.

Whew! Glad to see nobody on shockernet is overreacting about one game against a very high quality opponent that took our lunch money on every turn. I don’t like it any better than anyone else but come on, you didn’t really expect this team to be even top 50 with this roster did you? I understand that was a pathetic performance but sometimes you just flush it and move on. Florida and Memphis will most likely destroy us this year but I would favor us in almost any other game. 20-10 seems very attainable. We are not going anywhere fashionable anytime soon (maybe never again) but we are better than the last 4 years and you have to start somewhere. They all told me 40 years ago or so WSU would never have success in the tourney and never ever sniff something like a final four. I will keep my black and gold sunglasses on to deflect the bullets sure to start pounding me! Everything has changed in the game with most going against us but I still see a very small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. I can dream. It worked before. Go Shocks!
