If healthy we do have plenty of depth - but injuries/eligibility was ALWAYS a large concern with this group. Ballard and Meeks struggled with injuries their whole career, and we are lucky MB is eligible.

Just a lot to leave riding on an “if” imo, but I definitely see your and Aargh’s points. Feels like with our luck though we should always be planning for the worst.

I have no data to back this up - it's just my speculation, but I believe bigs are the most sought-after players in the portal.

It's entirely possible that the same guys Mills would have been trying to recruit as starters were being pursued by the power conferences as backups. The power conferences can offer more NIL money (even for a backup) and a trip to the NCAA's. The other hot commodity in the portal is likely to be upper class PG's.

I'm not sold on Mills, but he's all we've got for another couple of years. Griping about the job he's doing isn't productive. He's what we've got and all we've got. May as well support him until it's possible to make a change.

If we need $7 mill every year to stay competitive, Mills could be the absolute pinnacle of coaches who would come here. Right now the entire athletic department is a dumpster fire. Saal is trying, but there's no way to fix all the problems in a year or two. When he couldn't get the money to begin phase 2 of the Cessna project that was pretty solid evidence that the big money guys were taking a wait and see stance.

We've got bigger problems than losing two of two PF's to injury. Our NIL situation appears to have been abysmal. Is it more likely that Mills is weak at recruiting big guys or that we didn't have enough NIL to recruit big guys?

The way recruiting out of the portal seems to be shaping up, WSU might be relegated to recruiting and playing bigs out of HS. There will always be injury-prone and low BBIQ players in the portal. Those guys are all looking for more playing time than they're getting.

There are very real reasons why most of the guys we're getting out of the portal were in the portal. Recruiting out of the portal is a new thing and taking some chances seems to be mandatory.

In summary, the coach we've got is the one we're going to have for at least another 2 or 3 years. May as well support him when there is no option to replace him. Will we still have an athletic department by the time it's possible to replace him could be a legitimate question.

Are we sure this game is televised tonight? I don't see it listed anywhere either. It says Peacock on the ESPN app but GoShockers doesn't list it as being televised
