Poll Watch, 2012-13 Edition

I think that the thing to keep in perspective here is that what constitutes a ranked team early in the season is not what makes a ranked team in the middle of conference play. Last season we had to grind a lot to get that number by our name and it was well deserved. For now, the number would represent more of what impression our guys have made.

The thing is, the impression is going to be pretty darned important come March. We have the opportunity to carry a ranking into early conference play. If between us and the Bluejays we hold onto those rankings, it could mean 3+ bids for the MVC. As Sub said, we have to win regardless. We might as well doing so with our name ticking across the bottom the screen as often as possible to keep our name fresh in everyone's minds.

Does anyone else feel that we really haven't played up to the level of a top 25 team? I think we are comfortably in the top 30-40 range, but not quite proven for top 25.

Same as any other high major school. Put forth a little effort, look good on paper, have unimaginable potential, and combine that with public interest and you are in. Conference play comes and you have to prove it or lose it.

IMO, we will be ranked, considering our body of work...6-0 is 6-0, beating VCU, Depaul and Iowa is gravy.

Went from 0 votes last week to 16 votes this week in the coaches' poll, good enough for T-33rd.

The coaches' poll seems to lag behind from the AP poll, as I expect us to be a bit higher in that one..

We're undefeated, beat VCU at VCU (which hasn't been done in 2 years), won an early season tournament, and beat a pretty good Big 10 team by double digits. Compare that with the body of work of some of the teams in the 20-25 range and it would seem we're at that level or very close. I don't think we'll be ranked in the AP, but I think we'll be somewhere around 26-30.

I am perfectly happy. We managed to make enough if an impression to get a lot of votes. I am an optimist and I wouldn't have guessed we would be top 30 out of the gate. Now that we have the attention, even a light schedule wont knock us out unless we lose one. Then it's a big uphill climb.

Did not expect this kind of respect this early, but I will take it happily. IF WSU can take care of business over the next 3 games, the polls should shake out with WSU in the 20-25 range heading to Knoxville, imo. The Tennessee & Southern Miss. games are going to be big for WSUs perceptoin purposes going into valley play.

Kind of amusing to see that in the AP poll the two teams immediately behind #27 WSU are UConn and UCLA -- not bad names to have behind you.
