Wichita State had virtually nothing in common with the other valley schools. A mostly urban university, that trended toward a more adult aged population. And perhaps most important to Bardo, WSU brought in more grant money than all the other Valley schools combined. It is easy and obvious for us to focus on the athletic part of the realignment, but it was about so much more than basketball.

Please indulge me. It appears you are telling me all the things we were already doing while in the Valley. Are you saying that all the recent growth is something that we could not have done based on our athletic conference affiliation?

Being associated with other urban research universities has expanded opportunities for the school and increased the amounts coming in to fund that research. I believe we've also engaged in some research opportunities with our peers that wouldn't be available if we were still associated with a bunch of teachers colleges and such.

I also wouldn't be surprised that due to our affiliation with the AAC and like minded schools if it helps us land the dental school we're currently pushing for compared to if we were still connected to the MVC. Now, I can't prove that one way or the other, but perception goes a long way in education and we are definitely grouped with better universities on the whole, outside of Memphis, in that regards.

Bardo was big on what the new group of peers would do for the university outside of athletics.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
        RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

Not saying any the above is not true, however, Bardo started the Innovation Campus in 2014, three years before joining the American.
