I've been looking at those Realtime RPI's also and they are extremely volatile this early in the season. I'm not going to put much stock into them until about halfway into the season then they may have an adequate data sample to be meaningful.

      I wouldn't either. That's why it's "Just for fun".

      • Here is a video from VCURAMNATION.com that shows the end of the game. Also has postgame comments from Smart. But the main reason why I'm posting it is because it has a good angle on the "goaltending" incident. I am one that thought for sure it was goaltending. After seeing this video, especially when they do the slowmow...you can clearly tell the ball was on the outside of the cylinder falling off the rim when Early hit it. I was wrong, officials got it right. Not that it matters now anyway.

This link actually goes to an article, but the video is embedded in the article itself.

          • Upon that angle, not a goaltend. Also, someone asked if Baker illegally moved along the baseline on the last throw in, the answer is no.

            • It appeared to me that Reddic traveled right after he caught the inbound pass prior to driving to the basket. This would make the goal tending controversy moot had the refs caught that one. He clearly takes two steps, reverses direction and starts a dribble. It's been a while since i spent any time refereeing but I believe you can't take two steps and start a dribble. You can lift a pivot foot to pass or shoot but not to start a dribble.

Looks to me like the ball touch's the floor on his first dribble at the same time as he takes his thrid step. Carried it!

                  1. Because EO in the first couple of minutes committed a turnover & almost committed another by fumbling a pass, therefore proving to 3G that he wouldn't be dependable during the crucial points of the game.
                  2. Reddic backed him down twice & scored easily, but the shots were altered (lol).
                  3. Reddic also got 5 offensive rebounds, but wait...I'm sure those probably happened when Carl was guarding him.

I going to fast for you Cold?

                  4. Pop quiz for you Cold...in 16 minutes of play, guess how many rebounds EO had? ONE (1).

I did like his aggressiveness when he went strong & got fouled. I could care less how the free throws looked (3G got a good chuckle out of the first one), they went in.

EO & Lufile will get ample time in the next 2 games to continue to work on things. I'll watch how it shakes out from my corner...if I could just find it.

                  Great win Shox...keep it up!!!

                    • Questions and comments

                      1. Who was on the floor at crunch time? Say beginning at the four minute mark.

                      2. Who was on the floor for the last 0.5 seconds?

                      3. The Early block was not a goal tend. Definitely not. I replayed the block in frame-by-frame slo-mo. The ball was beyond the cylinder and about 15%-20% of the ball was below the rim, when Early's hand touched the ball.

                      4. Dr. Wu, Fred had two appearances. One was for about four minutes and the other was for one minute. Fred had a turnover in each of the appearances. Wrongly, he was charged with three turnovers.

                      5. Incredibly, Carl Hall missed six bunnies. He missed three in one flurry on a single possession. He will not miss that many, during the rest of the year.

                      6. On the Malcomb and Cle two-on-one break away, Mal missed a lay-up. I sensed that Mal really wanted to pass off to Cle, but Cle was trailing with poor technique. On the break, Cle was running way too tight to the defender, so it made a pass too difficult.

                      7. I thought Demetric played a very fine floor game. He only shot 1-4, but really it was 1-3. The half-time prayer shot does not count in my book. He did miss a lay-up, which was mildly contested, but no foul was called.

By the way, he was on the floor at crunch time.

                      8. In slo-mo frame by frame, I replayed the last pass in by Ron to Mal. We actually got a little lucky. Ron was under duress and the pass was not very good and the ball bounced off Mal's left hand and out of bounds. If Mal had not touched the ball at all, then the ball would have gone over to the Rams with 0.5 remaining on the clock.

                      9. This has already been addressed, but I thought I would put a nail in it. Cle definitely did not charge. The color guy (I can never remember his name) thought it was a bad call.

                      10. The Shockers could have won by 10 or more. Woulda, coulda, shouda.

                      • On number 6, I felt Armstead was more to blame as he ran down the middle of the court. Cle appeared to be along the lane line which is close to where he'd want to be. Had Armstead been over on or beyond the other side of the lane, they'd have had more room to work and maybe pass the ball off. Cle could have been a little further out, but it wouldn't have done much good with MA running down the middle of the court.

Their campus is so ghetto I had to hire a security guard to stand by my television for this game.

I was actually surprised when we got in there. It literally felt like a large high-school gym. However, the acoustics of the small gym did help in amping the sound of the crowd. I was also surprised that for a nationally televised game at 7:00 EST only about 4500 were actually at the game for the tip off. Eventually, the crowd grew to the supposed "sell-out" (I think there was at least 10% of the seats still empty, but I know most schools "play" the numbers game.)

W/ all that being said, it was actually a good basketball atmosphere. Just like us, they love their team and showed their support all the way up to the first free throw miss w/ .5 seconds left. While I was pretty much surrounded by VCU fans, they were all cordial to me even w/ my WSU gear on. At the end of the game I had a few of them come up to me saying how great of a team we had and good luck w/ the season.

I went out on a limb and concluded I would never get that 4:43 wasted time of my life back, so I didn't partake. However, it does surprise me a bit that you would use a crutch like a video to try and make a point. The keyboard assassin is out of strokes!!!
