K.C. Hunt- perfected the lazy cross-court, telegraphed pass
Patrice Scott- Injuries galore
Jamie Sowers- lol but THAT VERTICAL YOU GUYS
Gaylon Nickerson- Cohen was totally worth it for this guy
Dutch Duo- Man did these oafs ever suck, would fit in great at UE
Gal Mekel- too bad things didn't work out while he was here
Mantas Griskenas- JUCO All-American, great dude, unfortunate candidate for early arthitis
There are so many bad players from the 90s I could list up there, but I mean, did anyone every really think Dorian Estell, Chris Potter, Jerry Stewart, Keith Stricklen, Ziggie McKey, Kevin Gwaltney, Boo Craft, Ross Peacock, Tony Johnson, Brian Ewell, or Kamau Alexander were gonna lead us out of the abyss and back to greatness?
Thank you kindly for excluding Claudius "Kid N Play" Johnson and John "VCU" Smith from that list.
Wait a second, Brian Ewell?? How does a walk-on make it on the "overhyped" thread? I'm not saying he was anything great, but come on.
You will notice kindly that he's simply on the Bad Players From the 90s portion of the post, Mrs.Ewell. And yes, I remember the Evansville game very well.
It begins and ends with John Smith. Highly recruited player, TONS of ability, total bust and I PROMISE you he's either losing or has already lost at least 1 battle with the law after leaving Wichita State, and that's IF he's alive.
Was there anything that could go right for us in the early 90s? Man, dark times.
John Smith- Top 30 (!) High School Recruit. Average player/dbag/legal nightmare/lead to allegations that a booster gave him and Boo Craft envelopes of cash
John Cooper- Maybe the most heartbreaking injury in program history
Jim Valvano- Ugh, thiiiiiiiiis close
Brian Ewell's best friend lives in my neighborhood in Houston. We've had some good laughs about Brian's basketball career although Brian did have a game winning tip in - the highlight of his time at WSU. Brian is surprised when anyone remembers that he played at WSU.
wasn't it John Smith and Boo craft that had the DUI related car crash near campus prior to ever stepping foot on the court? Don't forget about Michael Wiggins pulling a gun on his teammate - Terrance Flowers maybe?
John Smith is tops. I saw Gaylon Nickerson. Hes up there, too. But getting John Smith cost us a schollie having to take on Craft also, I think. That makes it doubly disappointing. Not that that scholarship would have gone to anyone good, given the 90s, but still.
