Illinois State looks like they played well in a 93-64 win of Quincy.

Hard to really know what these games mean, probably not much, but at least the Valley avoided the upset bug this year.

IF(??????) the Shocks are the 4th best team (or worse) in the Valley this year than the battle at the top of the league this year should be ferocious.

...which the pre-season #4 team will be right in the middle of.

Yes, indeed. Hard to believe that won't be the case based on what we've seen so far.

This might be another year the MVC gets 4 in?

Now that our exhibition season is over, it's time to look forward to the games that count. We have just one game (Saturday) to continue to build this team before the first real test.. With that said, the VCU game looms as the first quality test next Tuesday. It certainly is a winnable game, but being on the road for the first time with our 5 newcomers, what are the chances of us pulling it off? Is it too EARLY to expect a road warrior outcome like we have been used to the past couple of years?

Probably too early. Not sure that the road warrior aspect of a team carries over from one team to another, but of course, a lot of that mentality comes from the top down. I think we will have to see about that.

However, I will say young men like Carl, Malcolm, Evan, Ron and Tekele do seem to have that warrior mentality. Not that some of the other guys don't, but this group stands out to me as our mentally tough guys.

It is too early (or if you prefer "Early") to expect the same attitude that we got from last year's team. However, I am more optimistic now than I was before the exhibition game. Before, I'd say the most likely outcome would be a 7-12 point VCU win, mostly from forcing an inexperienced offense into too many turnovers. Now, I think we might be able to give them some of their own medicine and maybe come up with a win if our shooters play well (gonna need to keep up with them from outside). Before, I'd put the odds at 70-30 VCU. Now, it is closer to 60-40.

VCU should still have a better chance of winning, make no doubt about it. They are probably one of top teams in the country (defensively), and will be mostly the same team that defeated us in the tournament. But if Wichita State can get a win, it increases our odds of getting at large berth by 100% (doubles our chances).

Here is Paul Suellentrop's review of the MVC Exhibition games.

One thing Paul is wrong about is that he indicates Drake is a playing an exhibition game on Saturday against D-II William Jewell College. That game is actually Drake's regular season opener.
