Hopefully, we will get a look at Chadrack, Fred and perhaps D-Will on November 5 when we play our exhibition game with Pitt State.

Regardless of who our starting 5 is, Id take our second 5 over almost any other starting 5 in the Valley. And that doesn't even include Derail Green, who I think could start for a lot of schools today. The comments about grown men couldn't be any more true. If we get out rebounded once all year I'd be surprised.

If Green were at UNI, InSU, MSU, or UE, those fan bases would be pimping him for FoY and probably all-Valley.

This new influx of talent is going to present some tough matchups for our opponents. Last year we had to defend doug mcd with hall and smith. Stutz got abused by echenique. We now have the luxury of keeping hall in the middle with when we play creighton and can put a taller more athletic player (early) on dougie. Smith did a good job but he was 6'4" and nowhere near the athlete of early. With EO and Lufile coming in to give Hall a breather, we will wear out creightons big man. Oh, and i cant wait to see everybodys all-american playing defense on early and hall.

The WVB team has 6'3" player, 5 6'2" players, 2 6'1" players and 4 6'0" players. (For example, 6'2" Ashley Andrade "Lettered four years in volleyball, four years in basketball and two years in softball. ... In basketball, named to the all-region team".) By comparison, the WBB team has 3 6'2" players, 1 6'1" player and 2 6'0" players.
Turns out that volleyball and basketball are different sports. You can look it up. WBB by 50.

                    Observations:

Derail Green: Played Shocker Madness like David Kyles did the last 4 years. Looked like an All American. David’s problem was that after Shocker Madness was over, the season started and he could never live up to his Shocker Madness showing. Derail will be an outstanding player, but who do you sit to play him? His best position is the 2 where you have Demetric Williams, Ron Baker and Tekele Cotton.

Coach Marshall has never said Green will redshirt as far as I know, but I just believe he will consider Derail much like he did Baker last year. He could help, but he could help more 5 years from now as a 5th year senior than he would this year fighting for minutes. I know how often he has talked about how much he would have liked to redshirt Stutz, and think of how nice it would have been to have had a 5th years senior Garrett Stutz playing this year. Coach would have loved for Evan and/or Jake to have redshirted last year. Jake ended up finally getting some decent playing time at the end and during Arch Madness, but he sure spend a lot of time on the bench until the end. Evan basically wasted a year in my opinion. They both chose to play in spite of Coach’s recommendation. Coach might recommend Green redshirt and Green refuse too, but I just think the team is so deep that a redshirt or 2 would be valuable. Zach Bush will be a walk-on redshirt.

I was pleased with Mal Armstead. He started off fouling too much, but that is not his history, so I’m not concerned with it. We did not get to see Fred perform, but I was very happy with how he ran the team during the practice we watched. The tandem of Mal and Fred should be excellent for the point, especially with Demetric to back them up, and even Ron or Tekele in an emergency.

I think the 2 is really going to be a battle for minutes with Demetric, Ron and Tekele. They all play very strong defense and I expect to see a good assist/turnover ratio from each of them. Ron can shoot the rock and has been mentioned often as the best long range shooter on the team, although Derail looked like it last night. We know what Demetric can do and why he took over as a starter midway through the season last year playing ahead of the likes of David Kyles.

On to the 3. Evan showed me so much last night. I have said since watching him at Heights that he is a very athletic version of Graham Hatch. He plays just like Graham, but is faster, quicker, jumps much higher. His stroke does not look as good as Graham’s but then Graham’s 3 point shooting percentage was not really that outstanding even with his shooting stroke looking so great, so when it is all said and done, Evan may end up with just as good a shooting percentage from 3 and overall as Graham had. With his defensive quickness, smarts and intensity, I think he may take some minutes away from others. I believe that Coach probably envisioned Nick Wiggins being his starter there, but with Evan coming so far so fast and Nick taking time to catch on to the system, at least early in the season Evan may earn more minutes. Then of course, there are the likes of Ron Baker, Tekele Cotton and Cle Early who can also play the 3, all of whom are very strong defensively. Ron and Tekele in my opinion are 2’s first, but very able to handle the 3. Evan and Nick I would consider 3’s first but could play the 2 under certain circumstances. Cle, in the long run may well be a 3 first but can also play the 4. At least for now with the make-up of the Shockers, I think he may be a 4 first who may get time also at the 3. Derail could possibly play some 3 also, but is not considered a strong rebounder, so would likely not be used there a great deal unless and until he can learn to rebound better.

Then comes some real questions. Will Carl start at the 4 or 5? With the glowing reports from Coach about how Cle is coming along, he may end up starting at either the 4 or 3, more likely the 4, in which Carl will start at the 5. Either way, I expect Carl to spend time at both the 4 and 5 with Cle and Jake getting minutes at the 4 and EO and CJ (Lufile) getting minutes at the 5. Who gets how many minutes depends on how they come along. If it turns out that Cle ends up playing more 3, that would mean more minutes for Jake at the 4.

Three foot, six inches more and Carl will be raining down 3s.

I wasn't that impressed by the WBB team. I'm not sure they could get to 50 against an empty court. :p

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

From what I saw at Shockermadness, this is the line up I would use for opening night

                          PG-Armstead
SG-D Williams (I know he didnt play, but I have always penciled him in here from begining)
SF-Cle Early (I think hes clearly athletic and quick enough to guard 3's in the MVC)
PF-Jake White- (was very impressed with his progressing from last year to this year)
                          C-Carl Hall (nuff said)

Anyone see how rough Wiggins was guarding Green? Looked like Wiggins was taking out some of his aggression from his lack of offensive performance out on the defensive side of the ball. As long as he doesn't get foul happy, that's a good response to being frustrated on offense.

Looked to me that Green was giving back, more effectively, than Nick was giving plus Derail was scoring.

Best choices I have seen on this board so far. Wiggins has Greggs shoe print on his fanny. Not sure everything is soaking in. Love Wessel's hustle, but last night he got blown by twice off the dribble. Not sure where he plays. Don't see Cotton playing the 2. Gotta be looking for your shot and creating. Not his game. Hall, White, Early, Armstead are penciled in.
