I saw a person describe Shaq's recruiting process as grueling and hard on him. That leads me to believe it went back and forth right to the end. If you read the entire ORU thread, a poster or two hopes it is not over yet.

      Here is my irreverent question.

Why wasn't Shaq Morris heavily recruited by power conference teams?

      Just wondering.

Coach just got way out ahead of it. You see, he is a specialist in Mergers and Shaquisitions.

And with that, I'd like to dub our newest recruit "The Shaquisition".

I like that he move more like a 6-7 210 pounder than a 6-8 260 pounder. Strength and power are off the charts. If he works really hard he could be special.

Reminds me of the big AA frosh at UCLA.

Well, the link that @C0|dB|00ded: noted above from an OU source indicated that OU was giving Shaq serious consideration, so he may well have gotten an offer from them had he waited to commit. Furthermore, he has changed high schools a couple of times and it sounds like he missed his sophomore year of high school to injury, which would have limited some early expose for him. Finally, the reports are that he is a raw player so it was just been this last summer that he really started to show his true potential.

Interesting. Is 6-8 on the short side for a typical center in a power conference?

That could also be a factor. He has trimmed down to 245 from his previous weight of 260, so it isn't impossible that he could have started getting serious looks as a 4 instead of a 5 more recently.

That was last fall...he put some of the weight back on triggering the question about his work ethic.

For the 2011-12 season, the average height of the projected Big Ten centers was 6 foot 9 and 3/4 inches. They ranged from 6-7 to 7-0. These were their heights at time of recruitment.

I was wondering about his height being a little on the short side for a center as well. The fact that it sounds like he's still growing is very nice to here though!

6-10 and 262 as a sophomore would be just dandy for a center!
