I don't think it was about booing. I think it was the game where the referee objected to the student section unifying to shout "These refs suck". I don't think any more refs are going to have Marshall get on the PA mic during a game when the calls are being questioned by the fans. The students stopped doing "These refs suck" (which is probably a good thing), but Marshall took a huge jab at the officiating and like another poster mentioned, the crowd got into it.

Marshall used a referee-demanded warning to the crowd to further fire up the crowd.
