Come on. Is Mills Marshall? No. Is he Turgeon? Not quite.

But Mills is a hell of a lot more palatable than Brown. Don’t give me woulda coulda shoulda because that sailed with AD Retard.

The only thing that can get us out of this any faster than what we are doing is money. Last time I checked we weren’t Larryville. This is the interim we can afford. If you aren’t ok with that maybe you could cash out your life savings and your 401k and sell a kidney and maybe with all of that we could afford a player of Hills caliber.

This is what we chose. No coach other than GM could make it anything else and the only reason he could is because he can get blood out of a turnip.

Constant bitching on the internet isn’t going to make it any better.

I watched the game today thankful that we have Mills and not Brown. Is he what will take us back to the level we want to be at? No. Is Shockernet willing to pay the big bucks to bring in big players? Also no.

I am not supporting Mills as much as I am supporting not having Isaac. If this is what we live through for a couple years, so be it. It’s a HELL of a lot better than the 90s.

Lmao, there was literally national headlines on Marshall. Do a simple google search if you can manage that. It was extremely clear that some sort of drastic action had to be taken. It was also extremely difficult because they were all highlighting how brown should be the one hired (mistake). Just helping you out in case you have memory loss from having your head stuck up Marshalls ass.

          • The ******* s of the world might have been calling for it, but they weren’t going to do a damn thing to help us if/WHEN we fell into the abyss. WSU needed to do what was best for WSU, regardless of what the rest of the college basketball world was saying.

Obviously, “what was best for WSU” could be debated.

I was more speaking about what happened after *******. It was all over ESPN, etc. Truth be told, recruiting would’ve been a nightmare after that debacle.

but none of that matters really. The pit we’re in is caused by mistake after mistake, from Marshall to our previous AD to Brown and Mills even now. We’re still making mistakes. Haven’t seen any hard corrections to the ship yet, besides obviously getting a new AD. But results have yet to be proven where basketballs concerned.

                Settling.

There are/were better options than Mills. If the bar was set at just being better than Brown, well I guess we nailed it but what kinda bar are we setting?

He doesn’t win big games in the regular season. He doesn’t run an offense. He doesn’t run a defense. He’s boring. His ceiling will be the first round of the NIT.

Thats fine that he’s better than Brown. But after the previous athletic department fiascos, you’re gonna have to win first and be exciting if you want dollars and fans back. The other way around does and will not come first. Sorry.

                • Under IB, WSU finished 69th, 88th, and 86th in Bart Torvik. Under HCPM, WSU finished 134th and is currently 92nd.

I do think HCPM is an upgrade, but so far it looks like a small upgrade at best.

                  • One or two star players can make all the difference in the world between a mediocre coach and a good one. Hard to see we will catch lighting and luck into these players. On the other hand we are 8-2 and while it is maybe the worst 8-2 in CBB, it is silly to think we would do much better no matter who the coach is given the apathy of the fans these days.

I admit I am one of those fans. Between the portal, NIL and losing a once in a lifetime coach who was made for this job, I have focused all of my energy towards our other sports.

Brown and Mills faced very different circumstances. Brown had a bunch of players from the previous coach, who got them BEFORE NIL and the portal became the dominating forces in recruiting. Brown had a bunch of players who had been coached by the previous coach. Brown's first team was coached by the previous coach right up to the start of the season.

It's entirely possible that with the financial constraints of the athletic department and NIL, that Mills and our current roster is about where we're going to be going forward.

Here's another angle on the downward spiral of WSU basketball. Bardo did some great things for the university, but he made two really bad hires for athletic director. His search for an AD seemed to be on-campus only. Then Golden cancelled Ivanka's keynote speech at a graduation ceremony for WSUTech and WSU was labelled as "woke". That stuck. Big $$ basketball donors don't care for "woke".

                      • If you are referring to Eric Sexton as one of the bad AD hires, that one was made by Don Beggs.

My bad. I was referring to Sexton as a bad hire. Good guy and great meet and greet and raise money guy, but didn't have the social network or chops for an AD. Seems he would be a good guy for running the NIL collective.

                          • We are paying for three coaches now. Until we get two off our books I don't think there is any way to expect to be paying for four.

So far HCPM is not an upgrade at all from a results standpoint. That's not really deniable. We are less relevant than we've ever been. The best moment of HCPMs WSU tenure has been Evansvilling Memphis in the AAC tourney.

That said, I'm not sure why we are talking like the only options were keeping Brown forever or going with Mills. Mills looks to be a bad hire. That doesn't mean keeping Brown was the right choice. The thing that made the most sense was keeping Brown until we had a home run hire we could afford. Not just firing and hoping it all works out.

                              • Look. WSU took the moral/woke high ground rather than what many big donors and "rank and file" season ticketholders wanted. Remember the one-page ad in the Eagle? WSU made a choice. Not saying what was right or wrong. Maybe they did all they could do.

                                BUT HERE WE ARE.
