It's not KenPom, but I believe one is successful based on the level of their competition within their own league over time. Particularly, if you are a first-time head coach in a league that is lower level as trying to recruit players to compete at a much higher level regularly, is not likely. That takes time at the least.

So no idea why you would exclude Marshalls last 3 years because those years are the part of the reason he got the job here. He was 6-12 in those 3 years.

This discussion (use that term loosely) with some trying to compare the first season HCPM to FHCGM is childish, at best.
True, when GM took over, there wasn't a lot left in the cupboard, but there was some decent holdover talent on hand.
What does HCPM inherent?
A couple of IB's holdovers and one helluva shitpile left to him. So he quickly hits the transfer bowl and comes up with what he could get in a very short period of time.

Look, when IB brought in the renegade Butch Pierre, I knew they were screwed, brewed, BBQed and tattooed. That guy has been an outlaw throughout his travels.
It was the most obvious sign IB was desperate and throwing anything against the wall hoping it would stick.
Fortunately, KS also recognized the downward spiral of the program and started work right away on making the necessary change.
However, the regression of the program had already occurred and you now see the level to where the program has dropped.

Gonna take some time people. Lots of recruiting and changing the stench that was left to him.
All because one former balless AD took the easy way out and didn't hire the right guy at the time.

Some may ask how did it happen in just a couple years?
Thats all it takes in todays collegiate sports. In fact, it could happen overnight in todays world.
it just took 2+ years of incompetence and down goes the Titanic!
