    OPENING TIPS
    • Wichita State wraps up non-conference play with one more visit to the T-Mobile Center for a bout with No. 2/2 Kansas on Saturday at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.
    • Wichita State is 20-13 all time when playing on Dec. 30.
    • Kansas leads the all-time series, 12-3. The series is tied 2-2 on a neutral court.
    • KU is 11-1 this season, and ranked No. 2 in both the AP and Coaches polls, with three of those victories coming over ranked opponents.
    • The Shockers have lost their last four games against Top 25 teams since defeating No. 6 Houston in 2021.
    • Wichita State has dropped seven straight vs. Top 25 opponents on a neutral court.
    • Wichita State is seeking its first Power 5 win since Dec. 1, 2021 when the Shockers defeated Oklahoma State.
    • Wichita State dropped its fifth straight game vs. Kansas State, following a 69-60 loss to the Wildcats on Dec. 21 in Kansas City.
    • Wichita State ranks 10th nationally in defensive rebounds per game, 11th in rebounds per game and 30th in rebound margin.
    • Wichita State is the only team in the country that has three players averaging 6.9 or more rebounds per game (Kenny Pohto - 8.0; Dalen Ridgnal - 6.9; Quincy Ballard - 6.9).
Quincy Ballard ranks 15th nationally in blocks (28). He had a career-high 7 vs. Norfolk State.
Paul Mills is the 10th coach in school history to start 8-4 or better in his first 12 games. Only five coaches have won nine or more of their first 12 games at Wichita State.
    • Wichita State is guaranteed to have a winning non-conference record for the 26th consecutive season.

    SCOUTING KANSAS
    • Led by 21st year and Hall of Fame head coach Bill Self, No. 2 Kansas enters the matchup at 11-1.
    • While at Kansas, Self has won two national championships (2008, 2022), 16 regular-season Big 12 Conference titles, including a KU- and NCAA-record-tying 13-straight titles from 2005-17, and eight league tournament titles.
    • Self's 10 career 30-win seasons are tied for third most in NCAA history - Mike Krzyzewski (16), Roy Williams (12), John Calipari (10); and is tied for No. 1 on the active coaches' list. Nine of his 10 30-win seasons have been at Kansas.
    • The Jayhawks went 28-8 a season ago and 13-5 in the Big 12, capturing the regular season title. Kansas advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
    • Kansas returns three starters and welcomed nine newcomers to the roster in 2023-24. KU was picked to win the Big 12 in the Preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll.
    • Kevin McCullar Jr. has a pair of triple doubles to his name this season. He is first in the Big 12 in scoring at 20.4 points per contest and pulls down 6.9 rebounds per outing.
    • On most every national player of the year watch list, Hunter Dickinson ranks second in scoring at 18.3 ppg and ranks second in the nation in rebounds per game at 12.5. He is the only player in the Big 12 averaging a double-double. A three-time Big 12 weekly award honoree, Dickinson has a league-leading six double doubles.
    • KJ Adams Jr. is second in the Big 12 and 21st nationally in field goal percentage at 62.4%. Adams is averaging 12.4 ppg for the season. He pulls down 3.7 rebounds per game and has 38 assists.
    • Dajuan Harris Jr. leads the Big 12 with 6.8 assists per game, which is eighth nationally. Harris averages 6.9 points per contest.
    • KU ranks top 10 nationally in field goal percentage and assists.

    ALL-TIME SERIES VS. KANSAS
    • Kansas leads the all-time series, 12-3, but the series is tied 2-2 on neutral courts.
    • The two schools have only played 15 times despite being separated by only 165 miles. The first meeting took place all the way back in 1908 in Wichita.
    • It wasn't until 1981 that Wichita State collected its first win over the Jayhawks, known as the "Battle of New Orleans".
    • The Shockers won the biggest game in the series' history on March 20, 1981 in New Orleans. Led by future NBA stars Cliff Levingston (18 pts, 14 reb) and Antoine Carr (16 pts, 9 reb), sixth-seeded WSU defeated seventh-seeded Kansas, 66-65, to advance to the Elite Eight. Reserve Mike Jones was the hero, hitting a pair of long jumpers in the final minute to lead a Shocker comeback. His 25-footer with 4 seconds to go was the game-winner. It was the first meeting between the teams in 25 years and led a brief revival of the series. From 1984-93, the teams met nine times in a span of 10 seasons.
    • After a meeting in 1993, it wasn't until 2015 that the two schools faced off, and wouldn't you know it, it was in the NCAA Tournament.
    • No. 7 seed Wichita State upset No. 2 seed Kansas in Omaha, 78-65, to advance to the Sweet 16. Behind 19 points from Tekele Cotton and timely three-point shooting from Evan Wessel, the Shockers painted Omaha Black and Yellow.

    BOARD OF APPROVAL
    • Through the first 12 games of the season Wichita State has been among the nation's top rebounding teams. Wichita State ranks 10th nationally in rebounds per game, 11th in defensive rebounds per game and 30th in rebound margin.
    • Wichita State is the only team in the country that has three players averaging 6.9 or more rebounds per game (Kenny Pohto - 8.0; Dalen Ridgnal - 6.9; Quincy Ballard - 6.9).
    • Wichita State has been outrebounded just three times this season by a total of seven rebounds (-4 vs. K-State; -2 vs. WKU; -1 vs. Coastal Carolina).
    • Wichita State has pulled down 40 or more rebounds in 8 of the 12 games, including three games of 50+.
    • Wichita State has grabbed 74.9% of its possible defensive rebounds this season. That number would be the sixth best in school history.

    A SHOCKER WIN WOULD...
... Make them 9-4 this season.
... Move them to 5-3 all-time at the T-Mobile Center.
... Be their second straight win vs. KU.
... Make them 21-13 all time on Dec. 30.
... Give Paul Mills 115 career coaching victories.
... Run their record to 1,666-1,249 all time.
... Make them 4-12 vs. Kansas all time.
... Improve their record to 3-2 vs. KU on a neutral court.

Pohto shooting 3's is not good for us. Young man there's a reason you're open.

Getting decent looks on offense, again except for Pohtos 3 pointers.

Lots of turnovers and 3s (mostly by Ku). Feels weird in a weird sort of way (I know that doesn't make sense).

Unfortunate indecision by Bijan lead to a carry there, but really he is playing way more in control so far.

There was our chance for a surpass and calling the game early and declaring victory.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
