Yes but that was always who Nolan Richardson and Mike Anderson who was his asst. coach (Tulsa, and Arkansas) always were. They didn't alter their coaching styles during their careers. They were always "40 minutes of hell" coaches. I've seen Coach Marshall's style change a lot during his stay at WSU as he was able to recruit better athletes and create more depth. He never used to zone press on the full court, and rarely pressed on the half court (as tight as now), getting into the passing lanes all the way to half court. On offense, he most often scripted the half court offense and used mega set plays. Additionally, he would only run if numbers allowed. The past couple of years, he pushed our defense into the passing lanes, utilized the full court press (both man and zone), and on offense pushed the ball up the court whenever possible, and allowed free lancing offense much more than in the past.

Bottom line, Coach has changed a lot but most coaches can only change so much. I don't see "40 minutes of hell" in Coach Marshall's personality. I do see a possiblity of more full court pressing as a possibility.

Real men play man to man and force turnovers within the flow of the game. Drake used to press all game long because that's all they could do.

Now, if we are getting beat by a superior team, then do whatever you have to, to win. But to make it a policy to always press is ***** as far as I'm concerned. Let 'em get to the basket and then proceed to swat their $#!t into the cheap seats. Then let them try it again...

So if you were a football coach would you line up your defense on the 50 yard line and wait till they got there to start playing? Hoping to block the '$#!t' out of their field goal? I realize it is a different game entirely, but the point I'm trying to make is why give them an inch if you have the ability to make them work for it. Yes you give up an 'easy' bucket or two but believe you me, by the last tv timeout, they are giving up more than one or two 'easy' buckets. Horses are made to run

I'm not saying we should do it all game, but I'd love to see us press a hell of a lot more than we currently do.

I think you missed the point that Pin and I were making.

You have to mix up the press for it to be the most effective.
Pin and I were merely saying that some coaches may disagree with Wu Shizzle. Namely Coaches Richardson and Anderson.

I think that I got your point that other coaches have been successful with the "40 minutes" type of philosophy. However, I was responding more to the above response from Pin. I don't see Marshall incorporating this type of philosophy. This would be too big of a philsophical change for him. However, he may be able to change enough to press even more than he has in the past. He does tend to mix up his defenses up and spring the press on teams, then use it until they are able adjust.

Richardson used the press even when teams were successful against it believing that he would be successful more than you. There are no surprises and no adjustments on his part. He did win a national championship and always had good teams.

If your hidden agenda is to kill Carl Hall there's more humane ways of doing it than asking him to puke his diaphragm out on a basketball floor in front of 10,000+ people. He'd make it about 5 minutes per game in a press, press, press style game and I know I want WAY more than 5 minutes per game out of Mr. Beast.

Carl is not a horse by any stretch of the imagination. He's an elephant. Elephants are made to trample.

I don't know sensei. I can see Carl as a horse. I wonder if he likes peppermint candy?

Hahaha ... well here's another perspective:

OK, ok, that's a pathetic excuse for a horse. But how big can a horse really be, sitting next to an elephant?

I don't know KW. Looks to me like a walking foul. May have trouble staying on the floor.

It's not a Stutzephant. It's a Hallsephant. Slightly smaller but with a bit more control?

Edit: Maybe like Loxodonta Stutz versus Loxodonta Hall. But the Loxodonta Orupke might just be the most feared in all the Valley when it comes down to smash-mouth shot blocking.

So the idea is to talk about everything else but Jake White on a Jake White thread?

I started a "Jake White" thread because no on ever talks about him - and look what happens to the thread - no one talks about him.

I think White is the first HS AA of any type we've had here since Carr - and we have more info and opinion about Nick Wiggins younger brother than we have about White.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

                            Meh...

White is serviceable. He'd look good playing for NIU. He's going to have to keep his running shoes laced up tight if he is to keep up with next year's team. He needs to develop a reliable outside shot and quick. We certainly don't need him down low trying to bang.

We're all excited about the prospect of White having a breakout sophomore year, but what more is there to say until the season starts and there is something to discuss? Or maybe earlier if someone sees something exciting in practice.

If he gets the minutes, I would expect him to be the Shocker's second leading rebounder, at the least.
