  • New NCAA initiative

The ncaa has proposed a new subdivision to college athletics. Apparently if a university is willing to pay at least half of its scholarship athletes a minimum of 30,000 dollars a year they are eligible for membership in this elite sub division. This breaks down to about 6 million per year for 400 scholarships. The athletes would be compensated directly through the use of "educational trust funds" that would be monetized directly by the University so they would become employees of the university. They would still be able to pursue NIL deals of their own beyond the money they receive from the university. My question is would a non football member such as WSU be eligible for membership in this sub division and what would the benefits be. How many scholarships does WSU currently fund as well.

Not sure how accurate this is but as of 2015 it says 260. Women's bowling will be added soon which is 5.

I recommend we drop the following courses and degrees:

      1) psychology
      2) sociology
      3) education
      4) women's studies
      5) all other women-dominated liberal art programs

We need only engineering, science, technology and manufacturing oriented classes from here on out. Let's turn this school into a sausage fest and QUICK!!

This is the completely anticipated "next step"....whether or not a WSU can fund it is irrelevant. They will decide whom to include and whom to exclude.

Hint: Those schools who don't get waivers aren't getting invites either.

Crazy how once the winds started blowing, how far off course college athletics drifted from where it was even 5 years ago.

Also, I believe I heard universities could be able to negotiate NIL deals on behalf their athletes under this new proposal

What's the use of having a club if you can't keep someone out?

It's a new day in college sports, and some college administrators are dealing with it differently than others.

There goes the money to build state of the art facilities and pay coaches the salaries they get. Got to feel for the schools that are deeply mortgaged on facilities that are dependent on the TV revenue streams to pay for those facilities.

oh the days.. ten years ago the universities didn’t have to compete with the nil for donor money.. now they do.. and the ncaa is losing control..

now they ncaa and universities are allied in a sense against the nil for the future donor dollar.

prove me wrong please! but no way wichita competes here. there’s just not enough big money to go around.

This will make the NIL Collective moot.
