He seems to be doing really well for himself. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Spain or Israel next year.

Is Gal Mekel still playing? Maybe he'll hook up with him.

I remember reading from someone, a past Shocker, maybe Ramon or Joe, but they saw Gal play in a game this off season.

I'm also sure that Ramon and Gabe are playing in the same Israeli league this year.

just ran across this article about Gal
A new name has emerged in the race to become Israel's second-ever NBA player alongside Cleveland's Omri Casspi. Point guard Gal Mekel impressed the Utah Jazz in a recent audition to such a degree that the Jazz, according to sources close to the situation, have extended an unexpected invitation to training camp to Mekel, who played two seasons at Wichita State from 2006-08.

If we looked back over the last 10 years and speculated on who would be the most likely NBA'er from WSU, I am not sure we would have put ol' Mekel on the list, let alone high on the list. But I'm glad to be wrong!

I always thought he had potential. When he was here though, it didn't seem like he could play within the game or himself and was inconsistent and made some poor decisions. But he was also only a FR or SO during that time and has had time to learn and adjust. I would have had others on the list ahead of him, but he'd probably make a list that went 10 deep.
