I have heard Becky Endicott speak about the Title IX funding issues and IIRC she said WSU relies on the option of having your athletic funding proportional to the mix of you student body. We have 54% female undergraduates I believe and therefore our Title IX goal is to provide 54% of the athletic scholarships to women and 46% to men. We are clearly above that now. However, the excess we to work with is not equal to the number of womens' scholarships in excess of men's scholarships. Since some of those 20 'ships cover the 8% spread between female and male undergrad enrollment.

Of course, if we add football we might shift the method under which we try to comply to one of the other two options if that would be beneficial.

The Varsity Apartments on 17th Street have just recently been refurbished and renamed.

Looking for a place close to Wichita State University? Nothing beats new, as in brand new, apartments for rent. View our available units now!

At least this is a sign the private sector thinks WSU related housing may be a worthwhile investment.

I really don't know about Farimount Towers but I have heard WheatShocker Apartments probably needs to be torn down. But that is second hand info so not sure how accurate that is.

We have too much concrete and not enough green space. I am still peeved Beggs paved over two of the rec fields. I swear administration is killing any semblance of traditional campus life. Our fat ass student body needs to stop sniveling and walk more!

Of course, WSU students are leaner and meaner than the general public in Kansas. http://www.kansas.com/2012/08/13/244...-of-adult.html

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I wasn't sure about Bardo at first, but the more I hear the more I like. He seems thoughtful and open minded, and he's gaining my confidence that when the time is right, there will be a legitimate discussion about bringing back football.

I've always found it strange that we have a golf course on campus. It takes up nearly half of WSU's footprint. I played it once, it's alright, but I wouldn't shed a tear if it's downsized in order to make room for things that should be more of a priority.

Crew, soccer and swimming make sense. Is the Heskett Center up to NCAA standards?

I should really be on the university planning committee for expansion. The only thing we need is money for my vision. The POGO VISION....I see a time when McDonald Park becomes the WSU golf course and is updated and a driving range added where the houses on the west side are removed to make room. I see the current golf course used for expansion of student housing creating a "villiage". Since money is no object to this vision I would offer scholarships to any student in the top 10% of their high school class (in state) and create an academic villiage for these students to live. New research facilities used not only by the university but local business as a cooperative venture. I see the land between 17th and 13th being purchased to connect the new golf course and the existing campus. I see a new football complex being built on this land using the natural terrain to create the bowl for the new complex (I actually took a field mapping course and I had to map Fairmount Park) and its athletic "villiage". I see building parking garages where existing parking now exists but building them down instead of up and creating green areas where asphalt now exists giving the campus a much different feel. I can see building an elevated rail system to move students and visitors to hubs or buildings connecting the campus no matter where you are and want to go. This is how I would like to see things but the rest of you feel free to add to the vision. Just remember if you can't dream it it will never happen.

I think we need a title 9 for men on the academic side. We need to strive to bring the total WSU enrollment to 50% men and 50% women. That only seems fair to me, if we are going to do everything possible to give women equal athletic participation, men should have equal academic participation too!

This interview was included in the University Relations e-mail update this a.m.

On July 1, former WSU faculty member John Bardo started his new role as the 13th president of Wichita State. Joe Kleinsasser, director of news and media relations, recently interviewed Bardo on topics ranging from academics to a strategic plan to pets to detective mysteries. Following are highlights from that interview.

Excerpt from the article I posted, in direct relation to our expansion conversation:

I think we have a land issue here. Understanding where we're going to expand and how we're going to expand is going to be a really big question for us. And helping the community understand the support systems and services we need to help them.

I threw this together, after looking at those sites that were posted.

I found it so shocking how little compared to KU and KSU students paid with student loans.
