Ditto here. That would be great starting lineup, but a great team needs some quality reserves as well and Nate Bowman, Kelly Pete, Dave Leach, Leonard Kelley, Lanny Van Eman and Ron Washington would be more than adequate coming off the bench.

Len Kelly and Lanny Van Eman both new there way around a baseball field also.

I believe the last two played at the very end of the 60s and early 70s. In those cases, I've put them in the decade they finished. Unless maybe it was only ine year.

That explains it. I didn't hav my stuff in front of me. Being that his last season was 59-60, I had him grouped with the 50s

Coach Heller was quite the rebounder as a Shock. I got to know him quite well when he coached at Friends. What a special man, a class act and he loved our beloved Shocks and enjoyed discussing the good ole days. Former Shocker players like Dave Stallworth, Ron Mendell, Randy Smithson, Gary Cundiff, Jimmy Bolden, Joe Ragland, etc. that I have bumped into through the years always make time to discuss Shocker Hoops from the past and today. Same is true when I have spoken with Kerry Rosenboom, Mike Kennedy, Dave Dahl, etc. These Shocker zealots still have a special passion when they talk Shocker hoops from times past and looking forward. It reminds me of the days when I was knee high to a grasshoppa, listening to Gus G. on the tube radio and watching games on the black and white TV. Stallworth, Bowman, Jaimie Thompson, etc. made us very proud and if the our full squad would have played the 2nd Semester their Senior Year, who knows, because a National Championship was well within reach.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Oh, probably so Benishock. Thanks. "Ole Man River has nothing over me and my faltering memory. It is what it is baby. Tsk Tsk tsk.

Gus Grebe just sticks out so much to me because he was so animated. "Right through", "put it in the ole deep-freeze" Dave Skinner--comes of age." Ron Washington--the thin man from Chicago", "Right through---Ron Mendell!!" Then there was a few premature deep-freeze predicitions? Sort of like me here on SN. YIKES!!!

A friend of mine was at a baseball game 'many moons ago' and said Gus got so excited, he was afraid he was going to fall out of the press box.

Fully agree, Ron Heller was a terrific rebounder and if memory serves me, he was only 6'6" and played center.
