Fire him ASAP. He clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing. The cold nachos at Koch are his fault too. He should have told shockernet they were cold.

This is all well and good, but where are we on a second PG?!? Major whiff if the staff can't secure someone to compete with Cortes for the lead guard role and we're getting deeper and deeper into the offseason.

We going with a committee of guys that “can handle the ball a little” and “doing more passing than dribbling” plan.

HCIB had three PG last season and look how that worked. We could always bring him back. Not saying Shox don’t need another PG because obviously it’s a need. But let’s just see how it pans out. You can have all the PG depth in the world and if you have an inept coach it still won’t work. I think the Shox have a coach who can actually install an offense so my take is let’s be patient.

I don't doubt HCPM can make it work, I have confidence in his ability to find an optimal scheme, but PG is by far the most important position in the college game. Relying exclusively on Cortes is a risky proposition as it leaves no margin for injury or underperformance. Guys like Beverly, Bell, Rogers, Pohto have playmaking skills but they aren't natural facilitators.

My other concern relates to the overall roster depth, as there are only 11 eligible players on the team at the moment, and five of those 11 have little to no D1 experience (Ballard, Abidde, Ricks, Bamba, and Joy). Adding one more experienced player could go a long way to bolster the lineup.

New coach + lack of depth = rebuilding year. I don't see how anybody can expect more. The following year will be stacked with upperclassmen though, and hopefully another very serviceable PG -- so that's the year I am starting to get excited about. This year is just going to be one of those years where we hope we begin to bloom by the end of it. Anything more than that and I will be impressed. Maybe if we are lucky we get an NIT invite, and if super lucky make a deep run in it?

In the new world of college athletics its hard to bank on players staying loyal year-over-year unfortunately. I think it's more likely players stay given HCPM's credentials and an improving NIL situation, but I am hesitant to punt my expectations for this season (which are lower than usual given what you said above) simply because nothing is guaranteed moving forward.

Yeah, that's the downside for not getting instant results, for sure. You are expecting to make the NCAA tourney this year?

It's hard to quantify, but my expectation is that this year's team starts building some positive momentum for the program. In more concrete terms, I'm hoping they finish in the top half of the AAC and show marked improvement as the season progresses. NIT is probably the absolute best outcome unless there are some major contributions from unlikely sources.

Sounds like we have similar expectations and hopes.

If this years team is .500 it’s a grand accomplishment.

So any official word on whether Bijan Cortes was able to get his eligibility reinstated?

I am a little concerned about what kind of luck we will have with Bijan. After all he will be sporting two upside down 2s on his uniform.
