Hopefully this opens up some playing time for Garrett in the home stretch.
8 points in 14 minutes is actually really good (and he did it efficiently). I think Stutz has the offense to be a backup big man in the NBA. The problem is that his lateral speed is just too slow, forcing him into fouls. I think his goal is to use the summer league as a broader promotion for his game to get into a European league, as he'll need a few more tools before he can get onto an NBA roster with his problems. If he works on developing his outside shot or works on his lateral speed, he could eventually make that jump

              • Wow, looks like Stutz is starting today, really right now.

                    • I think you get 10 fouls in summer league

                      • Don't think Stutz is going to have the lateral quickness to ever guard NBA players. It is a shame, because he has the talent otherwise, but his body betrays him. He just gets too many fouls.

On the other hand, Mekel looks good. 7 points (3-4 FG) and 8 assists in the first half, with only one TO. He is the best pick and roll player I've seen in the summer league, and it isn't really close. Granted, many of these players have never really had to deal with the pick n' roll at an NBA level. See this Grantland article about how players are often slow to react on their defensive assignments against the pick n' roll.

Totally agree, Gal is Da man, Garrett not so much

Interestingly, Garrett was the only person on the Kings summer league with a positive +/- . This is largely the result of an absolute whuppin', one of the worst I've ever seen (92-54). He had 4 rebounds, 2 points, and 1 steal in the last 5 minutes of the game (he was obviously a scrub).

In comparison, Ben McLemore scored 1 point (0-8 FG, 0-4 3PT), went -15 for the game, with 5 rebounds in about 21 minutes. Garrett just outplayed McLemore in a fourth the minutes. Maybe he has an NBA shot after all!

Hope your right, but the problem I see with GS is the speed of the NBA game. They move up the floor very quickly and quick athletic players tend to cause GS to be prone to fouling.

                              • OH WOW!

Toure just stole a ball on a 1 on 1 fast break, then ran the floor, dribbled between a players legs, then a behind the back pass to a team mate for a slam.

                                What a sequence by Toure.
