sounds to me like if they monkey with where the squad sits fans might be upset, meaning the fans whose view is obstructed by the cheerleaders. I doubt the other 10,500 fans will be too upset by where any one is as long as the squad is still at the game.
They sit in the front 2 rows of the student section. I can almost guarantee that the 18 year old dudes are not upset that the cheer squad is sitting with them.
I think they should have just charged those "students" that always sat in the first row or two of the student section a premium charge and called it a day lol.

Didn’t it come out that they were just auditing classes to get student tickets?

I always thought they just felt special as official "screaming idiots". FWIW students weren't happy with them sitting there either and complained. After that ushers were supposed to verify. Depending who the ushers were sometimes they wouldn't let them sit there and some ushers never even checked for student ID.
Didn't last long anyway though.

After getting a look at it, this is so much a Nothing Burger. Cheerleaders in stands have clear access to the floor. They are ten feet (tops) away from the cheerleaders on the baseline. The design of Koch Arena gives no choice. There’s just not enough floor space to do everything.
There’s one potential issue; where’s Ms. Leatherpants?
No longer a coach

When a 3rd of the arena is empty, it's not really a good look to displace the dance team to gain a few extra seats. If court side seats are a must, find a new home for some of the media seating instead.
OK, probably another unpopular opinion, but I don’t really care. If you really want to save some money, kick all that gate security stuff to the curb. I don’t know what it costs, but I’m sure it’s a lot. The last two roadies I went to were OK State and Western Kentucky and neither used that stuff. You just walk in, they scan your ticket, and off to your seat you go. It was wonderful!

In the world we live in that is a terrible idea and this comes from someone that's wife was told to take her purse back to the car because it was 2 inches too big and had very little in it.

Why is it a terrible idea?
In the research I have done in the past, I couldn't find a SINGLE documented case of a shooting INSIDE a college sports arena, since the history of college sports in the United States. You would think with the thousands of matches played every single year for over one hundred years there would be at least ONE .. right? But nope. Not inside a single basketball arena, or a single football stadium, or single college baseball stadium. And handguns used to be allowed in stadiums by the way. But still .. not a single shooting I could find.
The idea that security is needed at college sports events beyond a couple standard off duty cops to handle the occasional drunk fan (usually a student) is really just lacking in any basis what-so-ever.
