    • Wow... just casually monitoring this thread and starting to wonder why the NCAA will even have a Dance next year.
If WSU is bringing in nothing but NBA first rounders, why bother.

Adding a bit of reality to the foray, I vividly remember Eddie Fogler claiming that Phil Mendelson would be a First Team All-Valley player upon his signing.

We all know how that turned out.

It's the usual Summer ritual on here and guess we should be used to this stuff by now.

Now just wait and see how things start brewing after a few of the Summer pick up game reports.
Above all, make the right call.

I am in rare lockstep with ShockRef. I am not trolling. I hope these guys are hard charging fire pissers. Let's see.

          • In what way were Hamilton, Richardson, or Chamberlain better than your average bench warmer?

            • Defense wins championships. Marshall demands good D. Juco ball, not much emphasis on D. Some will get it, some won't and they will not play.

Chamberlain played 11.8 minutes per game, averaged 3.4points and shot 36.8%; 35.4% from three and 66.7% FT. David Kyles, by comarison, played 10.4 minutes per game and avberages2.6 points.

As for Jerome Hamilton, he didn't have much opportunity here, but the next season he made All conference

I can't find anything quickly on Tyler Richardson, but two out of three seem to be "better than average benchwarmers."

                    • Hamilton averaged seven points at a JUCO. Chamberlain did well at UMKC. Trich may be going great guns in D2. At our level they were just run of the mill pine eaters.

                      • I still think Hamilton could have helped if he would have gotten it. He was worth the risk. TRich was always a huge question mark. Chamberlain did alright at a lower level.

But the point was, Marshall is recruiting players that aren't happy on the bench. They want to be on the court, playing the game they love, and they are good enough to be major contributors elsewhere. So they come in, push the guys that do play and that do contribute night in and night out. Marshall will never have the player that is content to have mop up minutes. He doesn't like that type of player. If they are hungry, they will elevate the play of players around them. Marshall has been bringing in better "bench-warmers" that push and then are gone, but these "bench-warmers" can come in and contribute one night when the lineup is in foul trouble.

I don't know about BOBB, but it seems like he has an axe to grind with Marshall. BOBB talks about the "good" being a fluke, but Marshall has had increased levels of success every year, and every year the "bench-warmers" he brings in are better and better. I am fine with the revolving door as long as the players Marshall is bringing in can really push the starters.

Did he get lucky with Toure, Stutz and Ragland or unlucky with these guys? I'm not saying this recruiting class can't play. I am saying that expecting anything but a step down from a team of 3-5 new starters is folly.
These players were mostly one and gone. If there had been playing available perhaps they could have been contributors but as others have pointed out they did not put forth the effort at GM's level and found themselves left out.

So why is it that everyone that questions Coach Marshall has an axe to grind? I've been accused of it and now I see that Bobb is too. Is it that difficult to believe that the entire world does not see the situation from the same point of view that you do?

                              • Misses in signed recruits come from various reasons than just a coach just not knowing talent. Just as some have said that Jucos fill holes, sometimes, HS players are choosen to fill out rosters with a coach hoping that potential turns to reality or that they can help them overcome HS classroom deficiencies. Players get homesick, they don't advance in playing time as fast as they think they should, regardless of the help provided, they just don't do the bookin' or just can't do it. Sometimes they just get crossways with the staff. How many left under MT (or due to MT): Sowers, Sherrell, Liberty, Walls, Green, Young, Brown, Butler, Ogirri (he was leaving even if MT stayed).
