No, but at least with him it's pretty much written that he'll play.

While it is correct that there is no official comfirmation of Armstead's scholarship status Pual Suellentrop did write:

With six returners, seven recruits and scholarships for Ron Baker and Malcolm Armstead (both walk-ons in 2011-12), WSU is at 15 scholarships.

yea, I think if Hawkins does not show up will be a big blow for us, never want freshmen with a lotta potential to not make it, this is why we always have to go the JUCO route, which I am no way saying is not a good idea, just sometimes you need 4 year players .

I'm not sure it's a huge blow. Yes, the kid has a lot of potential, but for the next two years we'll have Lufile and White in the post as well as Early being capable. Hall and Ehimen this year. And possibly Uwadiae to throw in there. If we don't get Hawkins here, a FR the following season that can play PF would eleviate that miss quite well. Not getting Uwadiae here and eligible would be a bigger blow as far as having to go back to the JUCO ranks for a center.

Earl Watson is currently committed at a post in 2013-14 as well.

As far as White goes, he'd be the 4th option on that list and only in case of emergency. He only played it this year when we had foul trouble with Garrett, Ehimen and Carl I believe. Not what anybody wanted to see. If we're stuck with White at the 5, we're in trouble. That would force Early to PF or more minutes there for a Hawkins/Green and start stretching us a bit. Hopefully, White doesn't see a single minute as a center this coming season.

Overall though, depth is great but playing time is going to be an issue. If everyone shows up and stays and it all works out somehow, I could see three or four redshirts benefitting players and the team.

                PG - Williams 12, Armstead 15, Cotton 5, FVV 8
                SG - Wiggins 14, Williams 12, Cotton 8, Baker 6
                SF - Early 25, Wiggins 10, Baker 5
                PF - White 20, Hall 12, Lufile 8
                C - Ehimen 20, Hall 12, Lufile 8

                Early 25
                Williams 24
                Wiggins 24
                Hall 24
                White 20
                Ehimen 20
                Lufile 16
                Armstead 15
                Cotton 13
                Baker 11
                FVV 8

Or something like that. That's nothing but mop up minutes at best for Wessel, Green and Hawkins. I'd expect Uwadiae the redshirt anyway. And that's playing 11. That's a lot of players to play significant minutes. And I know a number are going to be unhappy with me having FVV under 10. These are rough guesstimates and did what I could to get FVV up to 8.
I see wiggins getting close to 15 total minutes and Armstead closer to 24. Also I think White and Hall will get virtually all of their minutes at the 4 with Lufile and EO playing nearly all of the post minutes. Green and Baker are the wild cards.

I have to laugh. You guys go ahead and have fun dividing up player minutes before they ever show up for practice. It's this type of mentality that brings on the phone call to Coach's show with the caller disappointed that EO isn't averaging more than 6 minutes (or playing alongside Garrett at the same time) because they had decided that with his talent that he was obviously going to play more than that. Games are won during practice and games, not on paper (but that isn't very much fun, is it). Carry on.

Context is everything, my friend. It's fun to speculate about depth chart and playing time in the off-season on a discussion board. It also leads to interestign conversation about what combinations might work etc., but I think almost all of us understand its speculative nature. On the other hand, we also recognize it is ignorant to call out the head coach during a radio interview about someone getting more minutes. The posters engaging in the former would be the last to do the other.

It's a long off-season. We'll get some reports from summer pickup games. Those games are no indication of what a player can or will do within the system. It's actually reasonable for Orukpe to work on his 3-point shooting in summer games. If reports from summer games were an indication of what's coming in fall, Kyles would have been a 3-year starter.

All we've got is specultion until we start getting summer pickup game reports in a month or so. Then we get NOTHING from August until the exhibition games. Speculating about precise minutes is usually an exercise in futility, but that';s going to be a significant part of the posts until September or October. There just won't be much else to talk about.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I always think the preseason dividing of minutes is silly, particularly when we're dividing minutes of people no one has ever seen play. However, it's harmless fun in the offseason.

What isn't harmless is the damage being done to the program with, our JUCO heavy roster. It is an embarassment that we have one player, DWill, out of the Junior and Senior classes that played here as a Freshman. 2009: Dwill, Richardson, Hamilton and Manigault. 2010: Didn't bother. Brought in Orupke (one can argue) Ragland and Smith all JUCO. 2011: White, Wessel, Cotton, Ede and Baker as Freshmen with Hall and Anacreon as JUCO. Ede is gone and some are speculating about the future of Wessel and or Baker. We find ourselves today two over the scholarship limit by most educated guesses with the assumption that we may have 1-2 freshman recruits not qualify, giving us potentially Wiggins, Lufile, Early as JUCO and Green and VanVleet as potential four year players.

My friends, this IS a recruiting and management problem. I will get on board and support the team and enjoy the talent we put out. But, next years team will likely be dominated by Dwill, JUCO's and a one year transfer player. I don't like it.

Oh, settle down, Margaret. You will be fine when Marshall has rings on all his fingers. I am fine with it as long as he is getting the best players available.

It's all about putting the best players you have on the court. That's what it's always about. When we have a freshman that outperforms an upperclassman you will see him playing. That doesn't happen very often many places.
