  • Today in Shockers Sports History: December 30th

For the day, the Shockers are:
    20 and 13

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2017 - #8 WSU Won at UConn in Hartford, Conn. before a network audience on CBS. This was the type of debut Wichita State envisioned when it joined the American Athletic Conference. Landry Shamet scored 16 points and the eighth-ranked Shockers opened conference play by beating UConn 72-62 in front of a packed arena, which has four national championship banners hanging from the rafters. Rashard Kelly, Conner Frankamp and Austin Reaves each added 11 points for Wichita State (11-2, 1-0). "It was a cool atmosphere to finally get into conference play and get that first win out of the way," Shamet said. "Our first American win, on the road, a 10-point win at UConn. (It) looks good."

2012 - Beat Northern Iowa in Wichita 66-41. Cleanthony Early scored 16 points to lead Wichita State to a 66-41 win over Northern Iowa on Sunday in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams. Early was 6 of 11 from the field. Malcolm Armstead had 14 points, and Demetric Williams and Tekele Cotton had 12 points apiece. Jake White had eight rebounds for the Shockers (12-1).

2005 - Bradley in Wichita 69-67 (OT). Kyle Wilson hit a 3-point shot with 19 seconds left in overtime, and P.J Couisnard blocked Patrick O'Bryant's last second shot as Wichita State pulled out a 69-67 victory over Bradley on Friday night. With the Shockers trailing 67-65, Wilson took a pass out of the post from Paul Miller and scored over Marcellus Summerville, and Couisnard made one free throw in the closing seconds. O'Bryant had a chance to tie the game, but Couisnard outjumped the 7-foot center and blocked the shot. O'Bryant had one more shot but missed a short jumper badly.

1994 - Beat The Citadel in Wichita 64-62 (OT). L.D. Swanson made a short 2-point jumper at 0:00 remining in overtime.

1974 - Won at (#16) Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee 95-91

1965 - Won vs. Rhode Island in Okla. City, Okla. 96-93

1960 - (#18) WSU Won vs. Baylor in Okla. City, Okla. 76-74

1954 - Beat Colorado State in Wichita 81-59

    1942 - Beat Ottawa in Wichita 42-35

    1926 - Beat Colorado in Wichita 43-17

The ‘26 Colorado game was a total thrashing… ole Ross was in one of his zones. Henrion Hall was a rockin’.

Man, that game rocked. PJ had an out of body experience to block POB there. Really one of the most fun games of that era.
