Landry Shamet scored 16 points and the eighth-ranked Shockers opened conference play by beating UConn 72-62 in front of a packed arena, which has four national championship banners hanging from the rafters. Rashard Kelly, Conner Frankamp and Austin Reaves each added 11 points for Wichita State (11-2, 1-0). "It was a cool atmosphere to finally get into conference play and get that first win out of the way," Shamet said. "Our first American win, on the road, a 10-point win at UConn. (It) looks good."

Cleanthony Early scored 16 points to lead Wichita State to a 66-41 win over Northern Iowa on Sunday in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams. Early was 6 of 11 from the field. Malcolm Armstead had 14 points, and Demetric Williams and Tekele Cotton had 12 points apiece. Jake White had eight rebounds for the Shockers (12-1).
2005 - Bradley in Wichita 69-67 (OT). Kyle Wilson hit a 3-point shot with 19 seconds left in overtime, and P.J Couisnard blocked Patrick O'Bryant's last second shot as Wichita State pulled out a 69-67 victory over Bradley on Friday night. With the Shockers trailing 67-65, Wilson took a pass out of the post from Paul Miller and scored over Marcellus Summerville, and Couisnard made one free throw in the closing seconds. O'Bryant had a chance to tie the game, but Couisnard outjumped the 7-foot center and blocked the shot. O'Bryant had one more shot but missed a short jumper badly.
