He also needs to move his shooting elbow in when shooting his free throws. He tends to keep his elbow out to the side and would be better served to bring that elbow in to his body and under the ball. He also needs to take his time. And lastly look at the damn rim for a couple seconds before shooting. I was always taught to look at the front of the rim when shooting free throws. When i started doing that or made an effort to do that i had much better results.
If you watch PJ shoot, you should see that he doesn't use his legs. He bends slightly and straightens them before he shoots the ball. Therefore, his shot is all with the arms and wrist.
Which makes it a flater shot with very little "arch" onthe ball. Which ends up being short and hitting the front of the rim or long and hitting the back part of the pasket. Watch your really good shooters
they will put lots of arch on their shots. Think of
SO & KW on last years team both had lots of arch onthe ball.
Maybe it's the fact that he doesn't even look at the basket until he releases it.
He shouldn't have to. Remember when Michael Jordan made that free throw in a game with his eyes closed? I'm not saying PJ is Jordan at all, because he's far from it, but he should have taken so many free throws in his life it shouldn't be hard to make them without looking. i.e. He should have a feel for how the shot feels off his hands.

Yeah, MJ and PJ are on the same level.

I noticed PJ, even Matt to doing it, and some others were not concentrating on their FT's and were expecting to do it from a rhythm movement, but they are doing on a 'downslide', meaning a body exhale of pressure.
Those that concentrate before shooting are 'building' themselves up before shooting, preparing themselves to be accurate with their shot.
Do this: exhale your breath, and then shoot 10 FT's; then measure that against thinking about what you are getting ready to do and inhale before shooting 10 FT's.
Oxygen in the bloodstream provides more immediate strength to your system, especially when you are worn down or tired, and would maintain accuracy more.

With all the analysis, it still remains that P.J. doesn't seem to have a noticably different shooting style now than before, but he was a far better free throw shooter his first 3 years than he has been his senior season.
Previously, he had Miller, Wilson, Ogirri and others who shared much of the pressure. Is there a chance that P.J.'s make up lends itself better to being a secondary threat rather than the main man on the team? Maybe too much pressure?
I don't know, just throwing it out to see who bites.
