You can debate all you want, but the market sets the price and not all the players are capable of paying the top amount, other wise, the auction would never end.

Of course not. WSU will never be able to compete with the biggest colleges in salary.

And as good as Marshall is, he's certainly not Coach K.

We can absolutely pay better than $500k though. Although I guess if we want to go back to the roarin' success of the 90s, that's a good way to start.

Why stop there, though? Like I mentioned somewhere before, we could save a hell of a lot of money if we just had the grad assistants coach the team. Maybe one of them is a diamond in the rough?

You are right on the money. We tried to get by on the cheap in the 90s and look what happened. The only time I can think of that hiring a young assistant for dirt cheap paid off was when we hired Gene Stephenson and that was clear back in 1977.

As crazy as I think the college basketball head coach market has become, I think we have to pay market prices if we want to have a competitive program. We don't have a choice. I just hope it slows down a little bit or we are going to end up with promotions for our promotions and SASO fees that will require me to take out a second mortgage to pay for them.

I tell you what makes no sense whatsoever is that LEW PERKINS, KU AD got paid $4,485,274.66 in 2009. That is totally absurd! That has nothing to do with the market. The guy is a crook in my opinion.

And it was all from state funds. By comparison, Eric Sexton got paid $175,110 in 2011.

I am willing to say I am a nerd, and note two things:

                    1. Language, at the end of the day, means what we agree it means, even if it meant something else in the past.

                    2. The change in the definition of moot (which originated as a medieval word for a meeting for government debate) came as law students conducted "moot court" in which they tried hypothetical causes and therefore argued "moot points". The phrase "moot point" thus came to signify something without any actual significance as opposed to a real (non-hypothetical) point.

And to those who accuse me of getting off point on a sports message board, I apologize and encourage the resumption of the debate on free market economics.

                              Alright, that's legitimately insane.

According to USAToday, the new AD, Sheahon Zenger, made $400k last year.

Interestingly, according to that, Vanderbilt's AD is the higher paid in the country at $2.5M. Not exactly a powerhouse in the college sports world.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I want to say that Vanderbilt has a very different approach to their athletics department. I think that they don't have a traditional "Athletic Department" but someone who oversees the athletics. I think he's also a professor and administrator of the university. Not just the "AD." I'm sure a quick google could find it out.
