I wouldn’t trust that sonofabitch *******. Dollars to donuts he is sniffing around for improprieties committed by WSU.

You think our NIL will be any more attractive than those of our competitors?

I think this is a good example of a good NIL package. The player benefits from a car and some money. Local businesses will be able to use him as a marketing tool. Some of these deals (Pack) will likely have no ROI for the people investing the money. This doesn't seem to be the case with the Porter deal.

Don't know - I don't know how much money it has or which companies are involved. I guess we'll find out when Council releases his top ten list and we can compare it to others on his list.

The new NIL market is most likely volatile and doesn't operate under a straight one to one comparison but if Pack is worth 400k year isn't Ricky worth at least a quarter of that (if we're being reasonable)?

Probably. I saw an article that said Pack was ranked as the second-best 2022 transfer by CBS Sports and fourth by 247 Sports. I'm not sure where Council ranks.

Ricky has 6 figure offers on the table from multiple schools (and did before entering the portal). All funneled through the back channel of AAU coaches.

Does that really make them “worth it”? If this had been 2 years ago, and Etienne entered the portal, where would he have ranked in terms of quality transfers? Would he have been “worth” our $ to keep him??

I'd be floored if we're ready to offer 6 figures.

I don't think we have the right people at the table YET.

Though i think i stated this somewhere in one of these threads. The thought isn't that we have to beat or even match them. Just be close enough. Ricky does have some allegiance to Waterman. He'd also be the focal point of the offense next year if he stays. So we have a few things to help even the playing field. The fact that we were able to come up with a Car + money for Porter in the first day is a good sign. Just having Porter back is also likely a big selling point for Ricky.

"Worth" is nearly always defined by what someone is willing to pay at a given time. Worth will change over time.

Now if you are asking if the ROI is there is a different question. Most of these will be no.

I was about to ask that exact question. Imagine if NIL had kicked in 1 or 2 years ago and we had to come up with 300-500k to keep TE. What an absolute train wreck that would have been.

I’m kind of thinking Tyson screwed up by foregoing his eligibility and entering the NBA draft, instead of first testing the waters in the transfer portal. I think most of us feel it is unlikely he will be drafted. So if he doesn’t like what he’s seeing in the portal he can continue on with his current draft plan. But he might like what he sees in the portal and could get paid for a year of college while he improves his game. I admire his confidence in himself but looks like he threw away a pretty decent plan B.

Hated to start a new thread, but has anyone been paying attention to Jeff ******* enough to explain what the heck has happened recently?

Something about a documentary, DePaul, getting sued, the Big East.....I don't know, but it seems to be "a thing".
