Houston, we do indeed have a problem. Eternal optimists and devils advocates rarely harmonize. This is very spooky baby!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Will be easier to RS Green if we get Wiggins.

Actually, I have noticed quite a few posts this year from KC which have been positive. Not that far from what he refers to as "sunshine pumper" posts. KC has indeed noticed how good this team is. His nature and stated goal of keeping it real requires him to slip in negative zingers ftrom time to time. He does after all have a reputation to protect.

          Hall, White and Early inside.

Early and White - mid-range with a threat from 3

Williams, Cotton, Baker - driving and can shoot 3's

We've got some shooters and some makers for next year. This year the reserves deferred to the Sr's. I expect this year's reserves to do better with their stats when they are the "go to" guys instead of the "defer to the Sr's" guys.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

If Early is an inside player, we're not as strong as we want to be.

Early and White may be threats from 3. We don't know how big of a threat that is.

Williams is ok. Cotton isn't a big shooter but should be a threat if left open. Baker should be able to shoot.

To me, that only gives us one legit threat to drain the long ball in Baker and a couple of ok guys. Green is supposed to be an exceptional shooter. And he's 6'8" or so.

If Early doesn't come in showing he can be a 40% guy from deep, then it makes it that much harder to RS Green. Early wasn't overly effective this season from deep so the jury is out on that part of his game. I think White can be a 30-35% guy. Cotton may shoot 40%+ but I don't see him shooting more than 1, maybe 2 a game tops. Williams may be a 30-35% guy. Hopefully Baker is over 40%. I don't consider somebody a real deep threat that has to be completey respected out there unless they're 40+. I know that differes from person to person.

This season we only had one legit shooter in Ragland. Smith was close. It's all Kyles did and he with the quantity he and Smith threw up there it makes you respect them enough. But that's also because neither showed much promise putting the ball on the floor.

I don't know what FVV did from deep this year. He may also be a threat. But I'd feel more comfortable with 3 or more legit deep threats. At least Kyles and Smith had showed that the previous year(s). Now, if Wiggins shows up, I could see a RS happening almost for sure with Green.

With all the names that are supposed to be here, we should have a damn good team. My depth chart as of right now would look something like this.

PG: Armstead, Williams, Cotton, FVV, Mitchell
SG: Williams, Baker, Cotton, Wessel, Mitchell, V
SF: Early, Green, Wessel, Hawkins, Anacreon, V
PF: Hall, White, Early, Hawkins, Green, Anacreon
              C: Ehimen, Hall, White, Uwadiae

Things can change but right now I like it. I know people think it's really difficult to see FVV RS, but it COULD be an option if everyone returns/shows up. Maybe DWill ends up playing mostly SG to open up more time for Cotton and FVV? IF Wiggins shows up I would put him at 1 or 2 on the SG list and 2 on the SF list. I could then see Green getting a RS.

That's how I feel about things right now.

You better be hiring a coach for with a long term perspective. This recruiting class is being brought in to run Marshall schemes not Jans or somebody else.

Smith was more than close. Ben was 39% accurate from 3. According to this year's NCAA 3-point stats, only 37 players, who met the criteria, made more than 40% from 3. I think your standard of 40% being considered a deep threat is a bit inflated. The all-time NCAA leader in 3-point field goals is Duke's JJ Reddick. He made 457 and shot 40% for his career. So in your model he would barely qualify as a "deep threat."

Joe didn't have enough makes/attempts to qualify or he would have been number one in the country at 50%. Joe is an anomaly. 50% 3-point shooters aren't hanging around many big-time basketball programs. I believe most coaches believe a player in the 36-40% range would be considered a "deep threat," that is with enough reasonable attempts to justify it.

I still see most of the players listed being under 35%

And that may be true, but if about 3 of them can be in that 36-40 range it will give us some options. It appears that potentially we could have more able and willing players to take it to the rim next year, which requires help from the defense, which could at least give us more "open" looks than we had this year...here's hoping at least.

Well, its 10:30 and after having one bloody mary and one beer I am optimistic that I am going to have at least several green beers before I leave Portland.
Whatever the Shox do next year is just icing on the cake.
