  • As painful as this game was to lose; we now have some players that WILL be back that know what it's like to get to this point.

Why don't you let us know when you apply for a basketball analyst position. This is a fan board...opinions are a core component of them...just as a reminder.

The post above is the same things I was just thinking. Then at the end, they made some shots and we did not. I'm doubtful VCU wins any more games in this Dance. Even at the end, I still thought we could win. What a heartbreaker. We still had a very good Season and we did Dance. I'm glad our Seniors made it to the Dance and I do not think we will have to wait 6 more years to get there. Sometimes, with such a sluggish start, the law of averages come back to haunt you in the end. However, I will repeat. At the end, we still had a great chance to win. However, they made big shots at the very end, and we did not.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

        • Stutz was 2-11 from the field. Two of those were 3-point misses, so he was 2-9 from 5 feet or less.

How missed 2 footers did he miss tonight?

Between that and Murry's unforced T/O's cost them after finally realizing what was going on.

The problem was they took 28 minutes to finally figure out what the opponent was doing and then adjusted.

            28+ minutes?

            28+ Frickin' minutes?
There are currently coaching vacacies at: SIU, ORU, Illinois, and South Carolina... please apply for all of them....

            • no one to blame but but ourselves, can't point the finger at Elgin or the refs, we played like dog poop in the first half, and then up by 2 with a minute left we leave an open shooter with final 4 experience. I wish we would have just gone man to man and take our chances, and get the ball back, but we have so many turnovers, its giving me a headache to see them play so loosy goosy and just cough the ball up. I'll give credit to VCU, they played smarter, made just enough more shots then us to March on...thank you to the players and coaching staff, you know the support will always be there. Nice season and GOSHOX

              • I think we were largely out coached and out hustled for most of the game..my first reaction was to come here and join the chorus calling out players, especially our leaders. But then I took a quick stroll outside for some fresh air and realized no matter how much it hurts me (and all of us fans) right now, our pain and disappointment is nothing compared to the guys in the lockerroom...in particular our seniors. The sun will come up tomorrow, life picks back up right where it dropped off before the game and we go on our way. For us it's "well there's always next season". For the seniors they now have a lifetime full of woulda, shoulda's.

                • I love how so many on our board will absolutely, 100% throw unpaid amateur athletes under the bus for every loss while refusing to relegate any blame whatsoever to a head coach making over $1 million dollars a year.

That's also the very same coach that those same people give all of the credit to for the program's success.

I love HCGM, but when you make the bucks...it's on you.

This attitude is so weak. THIS IS A FAN BOARD. Is there a test that you have to pass in order to be an analyst. That is basically what we do on fan boards. Come up with a better, more original argument than this please. Have you ever told a child not to hold their hand over a flame. I have...and I have never done it before. I guess I'm not qualified...sorry SHOXMVC children.

Just because someone isn't a coach, doesn't mean they can't complain about bad coaching. People complain about Gene all the time on shockernet and nobody says this. Why are there double standards?

No question Garrett had a very poor game. But he is a very fine young man and has been a wonderful representative of WSU and our community. I understand the need to vent frustration and that is a great service these message boards provided. Just not sure we really need to be piling on individual players at this point. Whether we like it or not, and we don't like it, the season is over.

Wouldn't mind welcoming the team home and letting them know that we still appreciate the effort they gave us this year and the fun they provided us.

I was being serious. Shock Ref, and maybe you' knows a lot about about basketball, I mean A LOT, and the basketball world is suffering without his knowledge being passed along to players and not just us bumpkins on the interweb.

                          • We lost the game in the first half. We were way to tentative, waiting to see what vcu was gonna do rather than playing our game. If it weren't for that spurt from kyles we wouldn't have had a chance to win. Stutz missed too many bunnies and doesn't do us any favors sitting on the bench. That said, we had an incredible season with this group of kids. I'm optomistic that hcgm is raising the talent level with this next crop of recruits. He got maximum results out of these guys and i have a feeling there's more to come in the near future.

HCGM was not outcoached. LIke you said, Kyles got us (his teamates) back in the game. This one was on the players... much as it pains me to say it....
I think you are 100% dead wrong on this one and we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Your logic seems to dictate that the better team is always the one that wins the game. Better for that 40 minutes maybe....but there is such a thing as an upset. Just not under your logic.

So your advocating a coach who makes 1Mil/year and doesn't perform in a the biggest game of the year & it's just ok?

If you don't perform in your profession, does your supervisor just say it's ok?

                                I didn't think so.

When you are paid to perform and quite handsomely, you perform.

Or let me guess--- you're one of those who thinks everyone should get a trophy just for trying.

                                Weak.
Above all, make the right call.
