  • Non-MVC Conference Tournament Musings

Lots of great games this week. Feel free to discuss anything from SWAC to Big 12 tournament contests here. Some will effect our seed or our potential matchups. Most will not.

Pretty interested in this CAA final between Drexel and VCU tonight. I've watched both teams in person this year and think they are each light years ahead of bottom-feeder, bubblicious BCS teams like Northwestern, Texas, and Oregon.

I'll start. I get to go to the Pac 12 finals on Saturday at Staples Center. I'm actually looking more forward to the food and beverages in the suite box than the game itself...

VCU up by 15 on Drexel in the second half. Really hoping they keep it up because they need that automatic bid to get in the tourney.

I want St. Mary's to knock off Gonzaga tonight as well. Gonzaga is a lot closer to jumping us in seeding than St. Mary's.

Davidson plays 17-17 (8-10) Western Carolina tonight in the Southern Conference Championship. Western Carolina was in the Southern Conference's version of the play-in round.

Kind of a shame- if Davidson wins this evening, their RPI will wind up every so slightly lower than when the SoCon tournament began. Teams like Wofford and Charleston choked early, and Davidson has been saddled with three straight games against 200+ RPI competition.

While that's terrific for their odds of making the NCAA (and I will be rooting for them tonight), it prevented them from moving into the RPI top 50 as they were forecasted to do.

C'est la vie. Here's to Davidson winning the bid in a few hours.

Western Illinois just ended ORU's tournament hopes in the Summit League semis, 54-53. I'm sure ORU will be relegated to 'Next 4 Out' status in favor of such proven winners as Seton Hall.

WIU is coached by Jim Molinari.

ORU blew a big lead in that game didn't they? ORU fans must be imploding right now

Nothing personal but I'm glad Scott wanted to stay at ORU 5 years ago.

Davison getting smashed right now down 32-20. These mid majors should take note from the Horizon league give the #1 seed a bye to the semis and let them host the tournament. Give these teams that have no shot at an at large a reward for winning the regular season.

I still have a hard time believing he was our top choice.

Far be it for me to doubt you, Trop, as it's been a number of years and my memory is getting worse by the minute, but I never felt he was our first choice. Maybe an early or first interview, but I thought the fact that WSU did not want to meet with him on campus here, was a sign that they didn't want to give an indication that he was our first choice. That POed him and that was the end of it. Please clear my cobwebs if otherwise.

I think your memory matches mine. He seemed to be option 2 if Marshall didn't happen.

Davidson up by 12 and looking pretty safe right now.

VCU knocked off Drexel. St. Mary's looking good against Gonzaga, although the two teams are trading baskets like crazy at the moment.
