Moccia said any decisions about Lowery’s future would be made within a week following the end of the season. Lowery, 39, is in the fifth year of a seven-year contract extension signed in 2007 that pays him a base salary of $750,000 per season, plus annual cost of living increases. Lowery can not be reassigned to another position within the athletic department, such as what happened to former volleyball coach Brenda Winkeler last year, according to his contract.

Salukis coach Chris Lowery was then left to face the inevitable questions about his future in Carbondale.

"I see myself as the head coach," Lowery said. "I have two years on my contract and that's what I expect. Whether that will be upheld is not up to me at this point. I'd like to see this turn around because I am competitive and I'm not a quitter. I expect to be here."
If he is fired, with two years remaining on a contract extension, he said he planned to walk away with few fireworks.

That writer has obviously been working on that article for a while now. Sounds like a decent list if replacements. As much as I dislike SIU they need to improve to help out the rest of the league.

SalukiTalk Extra is "part of" the sports message board SalukiTalk. I consider it to be little more than a "fan site." It may be a well informed fan site and SIU admins may occasionally use it as a "stalking horse" but it is not official.

I used to hate SIU. But at the moment they are too pathetic to hate. It'd be like the equivalent of kicking a puppy for me to hate them. Weber would be good though Id be surprised if they could afford him. They have serious budget issues (though what school doesnt?) beyond the $1.5 million they have to pay him to buy him out. But I do hope whatever new coach they get will be able to make SIU at least competitive again. The Valley is more fun when they are at least decent.
