Bingo! This is a point that many people don't seem to understand or don't want to acknowledge. It's not as simple as just saying "ok, let's start a football program." I agree with the new prez. I love football, but I don't love it at the sake of all other WSU sports, which is what it would be if it was rushed in to without a significant cache of money and commitments to fund for the initial few years and possibly beyond.

        nm...

I have edited this post as I shouldn't have responded in such a manner.

Spaulding, I really think you're "gleaming the cube" (ha, how bout that reference) suggesting others don't think it will take a considerable amount of money.

Man, I hadn't considered that!! Nobody in all these years that argued for football ever -- not ONCE -- mentioned that it should be done fiscally responsibly and without jeopardizing other sports, the Athletics Department in general, the University, or student enrollment in the way of fees, etc. Thanks for setting us straight!

AST table update for T&F results. Shocks came in as I had projected (Women 1st & Men 2nd) but with the MSU women coming in 5th the AST race has tightened to 2.54 to 2.93 in favor of MSU with baseball the only sport to be determined.

The best possible outcome is Shockers finish 2nd and MSU drops to 4th in baseball. If that were to happen the final results would be:

                1. MSU - 2.77
                2. WSU - 2.80

So it looks like MSU has the All Sports Trophy in the bag if my assumptions and calculations are correct.

I see the table has us listed at 4th and MSU at 1st for baseball...was that just a guess a few days ago? At this point I'd say the odds are on 2nd for us and 3rd - 4th for MSU...although that will really make no difference at this point, no shot at the trophy now.

I wonder what the thought process is for NOT counting football?

Actually, if it were a 2nd place finish for us and 4th for MSU...it would be:

It's still technically a different conference. The Missouri Valley Conference has all the sports used for the trophy and the Missouri Valley Football Conference is just for football. Two "seperate" entitites.

I don't follow the league at all, but I guess they finally changed their name...for years they were the Gateway Conference. I'm sure part of the reasoning for not including it as part of the MVC is because it's a 10 school conference with only 5 of those being apart of the MVC.

They changed it 6 or so years ago to capitalize on the success of basketball. However, to incorporate it into the MVC, they'd need 6 full members that participated and not just football only. If we brought back football, they may incorporate it into the conference. Either that, or bring in the Dakotas for all sports. But their one shy of doing that at the moment.

That was guess two weeks ago when I first posted the table. I have only updated the table for actual results. I don't want to update the baseball numbers for fear I will jinx the Shocks. I will very happily let them prove me to be way off base on those guesses.

Yes, that's what I calculated which gives the trophy to MSU. It looks like it could be much closer than I ever anticipated just a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately close counts for little other than some regret.
