If we were to play them an beat them in the NCAA, and IF Marshall left and his best recruiting class ever never showed up, then and only then would KU consider a matchup...

Personally, put us as far as possible on the other side of the brackets, and let us prove our worth against teams just as good: Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Missouri, Baylor, Michigan State, Ohio State. That would be a lot more fun as far as I am concerned...

Who cares who we play as long as we win. And if by winning, it just so happened that we end up getting the easiest path throughout the tournament, I'm very good with that as well. In fact, I would prefer it. It wouldn't be our fault who we played, just play the hand your dealt, win and move on.

I have 11 more wishes for this year. 6 of those wishes involve the NCAA Tournament. If the other 5 wishes come true that will somewhat enhance the chances of the 6 NCAA wishes coming to fruition.

I don't care who we play. As much as I despise KU, right now it's all about winning regardless of who we play. Paul Suellentrop made an interesting point about KU. If we play KU, this season would probably be known more for the fact that we played KU than all the other successes we had. It'd take away from everything we accomplished.

If I had one wish, it'd be to play the first two rounds in Omaha so we'd travel the best. Then play the Sweet 16/Elite 8 in St. Louis so we can travel again with ease. Then go to New Orleans and return on Tuesday for a parade.

But to hope you play KU in the NCAA tournament is just crazy. At this point in the season, and at this point in our program (consistently upward trend in all categories, wins, efficiency, etc.) I think the fans should be focused on how much damage can the team do in the bracket, and how far they can get. Not on who we play, but where we end up.

The constant obsession with playing KU just solidifies KU's and KSU's opinions that we are red headed step child of basketball programs in Kansas. You don't see KU or KSU fans hoping for a specific team match up in the NCAA's. They just want to win, and it doesn't matter against who.

I wish that someday our fan base won't have to use playing/beating KU as a way to legitimize our program. KU fans, staff and administration dismissed us a long time ago and continue to ignore us, and every time we b!tch and moan about this we feed the perception that we're somehow inferior. They don't care, so why should we? We don't need to play them to prove we're better--we don't need to play them to prove ANYTHING. Seriously, we want so much to play a program whose greatest reputation is to choke against mid-majors in the first 2 rounds of the NCAAs, and who won a recent national championship because the team they were playing couldn't sink clutch free-throws? Um, folks, we can do better than to want to play those guys. Forget KU, I want to play Kentucky or UNC every year.

I don't know how much you know about the history between WSU, KU, and the Kansas Board of Regents (which is also KU). But there is a lot more to the story than simply wanting to play KU like a whiny step child. KU has been very afraid of this University (in the past) and did many things that contributed to the weaker stature we find ourselves in today.

Playing against KU and beating them hurts those that matter (from the past) more than you will ever know. Self is so afraid of a loss and the subsequent heat he would receive from certain boosters that he doesn't even discuss the possibility. This isn't about identification or some silly ego boost, it's about beating a team that has done us many great disservices in the past. It's about sweet, sweet revenge. A large KU website lists the loss to us in the 1981 NCAA tourney as one of their top 10 most painful losses of all time. This is about cornering the cheating chickens and cooking their goose in front of everybody.

This is not a petty obsession, we had important boosters that stopped supporting the program when Turgeon was hired because of his KU roots. I personally wouldn't go to those extremes, but the hatred for KU is very strong in many Shocker supporters and it isn't due to jealousy, it's due to their predatory practices of the past and their many attempts to cut our legs out when we just start to get a little momentum. They've done some of the same things to KSU, but nowhere near what they've done to us.

Hopefully, just like 2006, of the 3 Bigs in Kansas, I hope we are the again the last standing at the Dance. KU has a nice starting 5, but not as much depth as in past Seasons. They also struggle with their throws. However, they are better then I thought they would be overall. K-State did beat Missouri and had a nice win versus Baylor on the road. As far as our Shocks, I want us to finish strong in our Valley and Lew games which should give us a more suitable bracket to make some big noise. There is no team I fear for our Shocks but would like a nice bracket that we can thrive in for as long as possible. We played UCONN strong last Season and it took a 44-13 throw disparity for them to beat us around 5-6 points. That tough loss was nothing to be ashamed of. It is very exciting that we can just have such discussions. It has been too long and I want it to become a routine for Shocker dancing in March.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
