Freakin' weirdos a plenty around here. I can enjoy our season AND think about what GM is going to do. I betcha' didn't know I can also walk and chew gum at the same time. Pretty neat huh? I know some on this board however lack that multitasking skill and can't see past their own nose. Whatever.

Fever, I won't stop visiting their board, it's the first place that will announce a firing and a hiring. Know what I'm sayin'?

Now you've done it. If my wife reads this ****, she will think I can take out the trash and lock the back door during the same timeout. And I thought you could be trusted...you're officially out of the circle of trust.

10,000 seats for 16 games at $1 per ticket = $1,600,000. Can you spare a $1 per game for a top notch coach? for another $.10 we can encourage Fever to come for halftime entertainment.

Exactly what I was thinking. The basketball program would seem to be pretty darn self supportive without a huge number of boosters at this point. Add in sponsor revenue and I don't think considerable raises are too tricky?

I know that nitpicking is annoying, but it comes out to $160,000 which is a very different result

I'm no math major but I think youve got one too many zeros over that 16 game fund. But point well taken. Would fans be willing/able to add $5-10 a game in order to pay with the big boys? I don't know as it seems in this economy some season ticket holders are on the edge of being priced out of the market.

One other question - Would fans be willing to hand over their tickets to others who can afford them in order to further support the program?

Didn't quite follow this -- if it was the fan's ticket to begin with then they could afford it so why give it up? If they couldn't afford the ticket, they wouldn't have it. I must be missing something. Sometimes I have a brain freeze.

If you added $10 per seat per game to season ticket holders, you would be increasing the cost of the tickets alone by roughly 58% based on a 16 game schedule. Tickets are right about $550 per set (at least for my bench back seats) and you are wanting to add $320 to that just to keep coach. While I think Marshall is a great coach...we all thought the same of Turg when he was here and we replaced him very well i think. Increasing tickets a small % would be okay, but when you stop and think that tickets have gone up at least every other year that I have owned them, at some point you will have diminishing returns as season ticket sales drop. **That said, I would like to see WSU explore all options to keep Marshall. I would be willing to pay a little more for my tickets to keep the product top notch.

The bottom line is that money isn't the only factor that makes a coach choose a new job or leave an old one. Marshall is making plenty of money at WSU to life comfortably, and, and this point, it's safe to say he's got a lifetime of job security. Sure, a million more a year would be nice, but we'd be kidding ourselves to say that, salary being equal, a coach wouldn't want to go to certain other schools for any other reason.

It's up to the individual coach to decide for themselves what factors they take into consideration, and what priority they give those factors. Money is only one of them, and only a certain kind of individual prioritizes money over all else.

I think Marshall is more likely to replace a retiring coach at a successful program than to replace a fired coach at a floundering program. Every once in a while a coach leaves a successful program to go to another school. That can open up some jobs that are turnkey insted of rebuild from the ashes.

I think Marshall has seen what happened to McDermott at Iowa State. Also Weber at Illinois. He's seen Turgeon leave two programs in poor shape (aTm has an RPI of 157 last I looked - 7 points worse than Evansville - maybe that's not Turgeon's fault, but there is that appearance). I don't think he wants that type of a track record associated with his name.

Marshall's history indicates he's a bit more selective, deliberative, and careful when changing schools than many coaches.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Agreed. I find it very difficult to imagine Marshall leaving for just any BCS school. When Williams leaves UNC, I'll be worried.

There has been only 3 sellout +1 coming up for the season, so this might be risky as this points to the fact (in my mind at least) that season tickets price are at a point in this econonmy that is getting prohibitive. Of course, maybe with a good post-season run the perceived value and excitement around the program might continue to increase and be able to offset the losses of season ticket holder who can't continue to purchase.

Or maybe you shift the cost to corporate sponsors - since they give alot of their tickets away to clients maybe they have more value with a perennial Top 25 team?

That would be a more appropriate promo for ShockBand's noxious nacho farts in Section 122.
